Mwaka mmoja kabla sikuliona hilo banda mle ndani, na ninakumbuka kuwa kwenye maelezo yao mle bandani walisema kuwa walikuwa ni wageni Tanzania, sasa kama walikuwepo toka in 60s, kwa kweli sijui! Sina sababu yoyote ya kumsingizia huyu mzee ufisadi kama hakuwa, lakini siwezi pia kunyamaza wakati ninajua kuwa alikuwa fisadi.

'In 1956 I formed a Company called the Lake Province African General Trading Company: In short it was known as LAPACO. We operated Buses in the Lake area, especially in Mwanza and surrounding areas. In 1956 I continued to be Provincial Chairman of Tanganyika African Association until 1958. Then it was banned in the Lake Province in 1954. TANU was created in 1954. It was not allowed to operate in Mwanza until 1958' (Mr. Munanka, 22 April 2007)

He is the son of a peasant from the Kuria tribe located in the Tarime District formerly Musoma District. The Kuria are an ethnic and linguistic group based in northern Tanzania and southwest Kenya. In the 1920s the Kuria population was estimated to number 174,000, with 104,000 living in Tanzania and 70,000 in Kenya. (Henige 1971 pg. 371-89).

During the struggle against the British he spend time in prison. He is known as a Freedom Fighter, who lived through the period of decolonisation of Africa. He was a close friend of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere and he has first hand insights into the struggle of Tanganyika's fight for independence from the British. He witnessed the negotiations that united Tanganyika with Zanzibar to form Tanzania. He was Nyerere's Minister of State and envoy on foreign missions that led him to meet over 30 World Leaders including Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia and Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Communist Party of China.

Isaac Muller Bhoke Munanka was born on 25th April 1927 in a village called Mkalama in Central Province, which is now called Singida Region.

At this time Nyerere was 5 years old, born 13th April 1922, in the village of Butiama near the town of Musoma in Mara Region on the southeast shores of Lake Victoria in northern Tanganyika.

Early political involvement

In 1948 aged 20 Mr. Munanka started work as a Clerk at the Civil Service, District Commissioner's Office and went onto be a Clerk at the Civil Service, Provincial Commissioner's Office also in Mwanza where he stayed until 1952. He joined the Tanganyika African Association (TAA) in Mwanza and became Provisional Chairman. Civil Servants were not allowed to become members of parties such as TAA, therefore to take up the post of Provisional Chairman, Mr. Munanka had to resign from the District and Provision Commissioners Office...

Scania Tanzania celebrates 25 years - The hub of the service network for East Africa

Scania's wholly-owned Tanzanian subsidiary, Scania Tanzania, is celebrating 25 successful years of operation. From its early role as an outpost for domestic truck sales, the company has grown since the early 1970s to include service and support for Scania's operations throughout East Africa.
The very first order from Tanzania came from the Chinese company that was managing the giant Tazara railway project. The company purchased 200 tipper trucks from Scania. Another important milestone was the establishment of the Tamco assembly factory in the early 1980s.

"Since the start of operations, we have delivered 5,000 trucks to Tanzania, most of them locally assembled," says Fredrik Morsing, MD of Scania Tanzania Branch. Scania Tanzania was able to highlight its growing commercial strength and extended service network to the couple of hundred guests and customers attending the jubilee celebrations and the accompanying press representatives.

"We offer backup for parts and service together with the Scania importers in several of our neighbouring countries as well. The tough conditions under which hauliers have to work in this region owing to the poor condition of the roads – which have deteriorated even further as a result of the heavy rains of 1997 and 1998 – have brought the need for good service into even sharper focus. We therefore offer our customers service 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year," continued Fredrik Morsing.

Claes Torén, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing Overseas, says in a comment at the jubilee celebrations in Dar-es-Salaam that customers are becoming increasingly aware of the significance of the total cost of their vehicles:


"A Scania may not be the cheapest vehicle to buy, but our customers examine the total operating cost. When they calculate exactly what they are paying to carry a given amount of freight over a given distance, they see clearly that Scania offers the lowest total operating cost. Their calculation takes account of vital parameters such as lower fuel consumption and lower costs for unplanned standstill and repairs.

"What is more, customers also take into account the security that comes from knowing that service is always available, round the clock," concluded Claes Torén. "That is something that we often hear from our customers."

Sikujua mengi kuhusu maisha binafsi ya Mzee Munanka lakini naona kuna mengi ambayo nimeyaona.
