US-based Delta Airlines has opened office in Dar es Salaam a move the company says is geared towards strengthening the business and economic links that already exist between Tanzania and the US particularly in the tourism sector.

Robert Bryan, Delta's Director Commercial Manager for East Africa and West Africa made the announcement last week during the launching of the new Office.

"As US Investors, we are excited to invest in the East African market and we are here because we realize the potential in this country and surrounding the EAC region…" explained the director.

With an extensive domestic an international route network Delta in partnership with Kenya Airways and KLM has now opened a direct airline from US to Tanzania and given the market then start the reverse route, from the US to Tanzania
Delta Airlines has already opened other sales office in Nairobi and Kampala and the commercial director says they are confident that these new services will attract more US travelers to visit Tanzania.

According to Bryan, although Delta does not currently operate direct services to Tanzania, customers traveling to the United States on Delta can book flights via Europe operated by Delta's joint venture partner KLM or Sky Team partner and Kenya Airways.

Additionally, customers can opt to fly via Johannesburg, Lagos or Dubai to Delta's hub in Atlanta which offers onward connections to more than 150 destinations throughout the U.S and beyond.

Delta is investing more than USD 3bn through 2013 in airport facilities and global products, services and technology to enhance the customer experience in air and on the ground.

Delta launched its first services between Africa and the United States in December 2006, and right now the airline operates services to the US from five cities in Africa including Accra-Ghana, Lagos- Nigeria, Dakar- Senegal, Johannesburg-South Africa, and Monrovia-Liberia.

Delta serves more than 160million customers each year and just in the past year, Delta was named America's domestic Airline of the Year by Travel Weekly Magazine and it was also named the top Tech-friendly US Airline by PCworld magazine for its innovation in technology and on top of that the company won the Business leading edge awards for US Airlines.

Direct flight ain't the same as non-stop flight. Hii haitakuwa tofauti na Turkish, Emirates au BA. La msingi ni bei

Mkuu Ritz US based airlines know what competitions mean when it comes to business, I am afraid they will force out other airlines out of competition; they don`t mind to charge you 1/2 the price in order to win competition; their business modules is very dangerous to low budget airlines. The good thing many of us based in North America will be able to visit home at least twice a year!
