Only one Octopus Paul but for sure more than one Sheikh Yahya Hussein

The Andalucia-based mollusc, named after Real keeper Iker Casillas, and his mate Iniesta, who shares his name with Barca playmaker Andres, are following in the sucker-steps of Paul the Octopus, who predicted results at last year’s World Cup in South Africa.

Iker predicted Real will reach this year’s Champions League final at Wembley on May 28 by choosing to eat a sardine from a glass cylinder decorated in the Madrid club’s badge on Tuesday.

The octopus is reported to have also correctly predicted the two sides 1-1 draw in La Liga earlier in the month and Real’s 1-0 victory in the Copa del Rey – although how he managed to predict the draw remains unclear.

Paul, a German octopus, became a global phenomenon last year after correctly predicting the results involving Germany throughout the competition in South Africa, before choosing Spain over Holland in the show-piece final.

Tragically though, Paul died in October last year and football fans have been desperate to find a replacement ever since.

Real Madrid take on Barcelona in the first-leg of their semi-final at the Bernabeu tonight.
