In truth, I wrote this book in my mother tongue, Kiswahili. Yet I realized it carried a profound weight that deserved to be rendered into literary English. I left a few words untouched—greetings and expressions that embody the spirit of Swahili culture.

This novel tells of the sudden appearance of a mysterious being, cloaked in Maasai attire. A creature that haunted the land—killing some, terrifying others with its dreadful manifestations.

Several families, bound together by ties of friendship or business, found themselves stricken by calamity. They lost their children, and while some discovered the truth, they chose to conceal it.

It all began when certain men forced the purchase of a farm whose owner had firmly refused to sell. They coveted the land to build a football stadium.

Even when they offered a fortune, the man stood his ground. So they resorted to foul schemes, seized the land, and felled a tree that had been preserved through generations in that family’s bloodline.

That was the very moment disaster was born. For in ancient times, a dark spirit had been bound within that tree. By cutting it down, they released what had long been imprisoned—and it unleashed horror upon the living.

This is a tale that calls us to safeguard the traditions we have inherited, and to honor the sacred customs of others.
