Residents in
Kapelebyong County, Kapelebyongo District continue to face limited access to electricity, raising concerns about the impact of poor power connectivity on homes, businesses, education and other essential services.
The issue was brought to Parliament on August 12, 2026, when Kapelebyong County MP
Francis Akorikin made an emotional appeal for urgent government action on rural electrification in the constituency.
Akorikin said many communities remain disconnected from the national power grid, leaving residents struggling with persistent power challenges as other parts of the country expand access to electricity.
The concerns came during a parliamentary debate on electricity distribution and the challenges affecting the rollout of rural electrification projects.
What should government prioritise to ensure communities like Kapelebyong are not left behind in Uganda’s electrification drive?
