Tunisian authorities have charged former Libyan Prime Minister Baghdadi al-Mahmudi with crossing the southern border illegally and sentenced him to six months in prison, the official TAP news agency reported Thursday. Al-Mahmudi, together with his two aides, were arrested Wednesday evening near Tunisia's southern oasis city of Tozeur, some 450 km from the capital Tunis, a security source told Xinhua, adding that he was residing in Tunisia since Aug. 28. Mahmoudi and his two aides were charged Thursday by the Tozeur regional court with crossing the border illegally and sentenced to 6 months in prison, TAP said. Meanwhile, a Tunis court confirmed the release of Khouildi Hmidi, a close aide of the deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi after he was charged of entering the country illegally, TAP added. Hamidi was arrested at the Tunis Carthage international airport on Sept. 7 while attempting to leave Tunisia. |
