Col Thomas Kwoyelo the fourth in command of the rebel National Resistance Army has been committed to the war crimes court for trial.

Kwoyelo was captured in a battle at Ukwa in Garamba National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo in February last year.

He was the senior commander captured by the UPDF during Operation Lightning Thunder launched on December 14, 2008, after LRA leader Joseph Kony failed to sign the final peace deal in Juba.

Kwoyelo faces 12 offenses which include willful killing, taking of hostage, extensive destruction of property and causing serious body injuries.

He is alleged to have continuously commanded armed attacks, terrorized and killed civilians in Abera village Pabbo Sub County in Gulu between 1993 and 1996.

Buganda Road court chief magistrate Vincent Mugabo committed him for trial after the state completed its investigations.
