Buji, This compilation is great. Sasa mpaka huku kwetu mwafrika upate spot kwenye prestigious acadmic institutions kama Harvard Yale au LSE, nadhani we need to pull up our slevees seriously. (kumbuka wengi wetu tunakwenda kwa kuomba scholarships pia-which is a disadvantage).

Juzi nilikuwa naangalia website ya UD..ee bwana wee....kwa kweli bado tuna lag behind. Mfano Faculty ya Economics na Business..Sikuona PhD ya LSE (arguably the best place to study economics), Harvard au Yale..Sasa nikajiuliza kweli..walimu wetu hawa watawezaje kuwapa inspiration wadogo zetu wafanye applications katika shule kubwa kama hizo?. We really need to wake up.

In all, I believe kwa watanzania kuwa competitive we really need to look beyond SUA, UDSM na kwingineko ndani ya nchi yetu. Tutume applications kwenye shule kubwa kubwa ulimwenguni.

I was once speaking to my friend in Ghana..nikamuuliza mpaka kupata spot ya PhD LSE alifanya PhD applications ngapi? I was amazed!

Cha mwisho nadhani hii list kuna vyuo vina rank chini lakini they are arguably the best in their own fields. Mfano kwa watu wa economics..you cant convince me kwamba LSE ina rank anywhere (in the world) THAN TOP THREE!

Nafikiri changamoto hapa ni exposure tu.You do not have to be a Havard,Yale alumnus/alumna ili kuweza ku-inspire wadogo zetu wafanye applications kwenye shule bomba duniani.

Mkuu you are probably right. Lets face it mkuu.

Zinaweza kutusaidia. In all, our Universities are also good in their own standing, lakini tujitahidi kutafuta opportunities kwenye hizi top school. Its worthy the efforts.

From my simple research nimeona wakenya na wanijeria wengi sana wanajitahidi kwenda kwenye hizi top schools. Kuwa na institution kama UD na hauna hata PhD mbili au tatu za vyuo notable duniani..its a telling sign kwamba, we are content with where we are. Kitu ambacho si kizuri kabisa. Tukiamua tunaweza.

Masanja,

Good complilation, this shuold be taken as a challenge, there is something to learn from these succesful colleges and not just so what or blood sheet , there are pple who never accept critiques or embrace change for learning! keep asking so what... and see if the worls is waiting for you to stare.

Our uni's should sit and clearly re-examine themselves where they need to be better or what can be adopted. I remember a while back we were in an interview and someone asked, can you tell us how the world perceived your university (i answered) and nxt someone else asked and sir.. what can you tell us about your college, has it shaped you for better or worse... so sometimes college reputation matters, not in its name or country but the way it prepares its students to face real life challenges.

Sikonge, et al tuko pamoja.

LAKINI kama alivyosema Kinyau we should take this as a challenge. Mkuu, kuna vitu siyo mpaka uvipate darasani tuu.

Something we need so much. I can assure you, mwalimu mwenye PhD ya Harvard na mwalimu mwenye PhD yetu ya UD wanatofauti kubwa sana.

Mfano, ukiangalia hizi nchi tajiri hata wakienda kwenye international negotiations. Delegation zao zinakuwa zimejaa cutting edge researchers kwenye top institutions ambao ndo wanakuwa deal makers behind the doors. Sasa piga flash back kwetu hapa TANZANIA/AFRICA wazee ndo wanagombana wapewe trip ya kwenda Copenhagen kufanya shopping.

I mean kama taifa, as Kinyau said, we have to embrace challenge. Hii kupeana madaraka kwa kujuana bila kuangalia what a person is capable to bring on the table, haitufikishi popote. After all wote hatuwezi kwenda kwenye hizi shule. Lakini wale wanaoweza (na wako wengi) lets encourage them and support them where possible. You never know, what they can do for our country.

..hii ranking imetolewa na organization gani?

..it would have been better if the methods and criteria used in coming up with this ranking were explained.

..personally i prefer rankings that a based on specific field of study; for example: which university is the best in Engineering, or Medicine, or Law etcs. Now, different studies also have their branches e.g Engineering has Civil,Electrical,Mechanical, etc.

..kuna mambo ambayo yako very specific kwa Tanzania. No country in the world is blessed in terms of wildlife than Tanzania. Then, why dont we have the best institute in Wildlife Research in the world?

..we also claim to be the most peaceful country in sub-saharan Africa. Now,why isnt the best institute of Peace and Conflict resolution in Africa/ the world, found in our country?

..we also claimed to be the most peaceful country in sub-saharan Africa. Now,why isnt the best institute of Peace and Conflict resolution in Africa/ the world, found in our country?

If peace means the absence of war then we are a peaceful country. But if peace means equal justice to all then I doubt we can claim that title. Remember, no justice no peace.

Cha mwisho nadhani hii list kuna vyuo vina rank chini lakini they are arguably the best in their own fields. Mfano kwa watu wa economics..you cant convince me kwamba LSE ina rank anywhere (in the world) THAN TOP THREE! Masanja, LSE is not a University in it's own, it is part of the University of London...(I think) but come to think of it, so is UCL and it is in the top 5!!!

The other way to look at it is this, the people who compiled this list are biased, I am a student in one of the listed Universities and what happened is, we were asked to fill in a survey. If I can get a copy I will post it here. It looks as if the data is slightly skewed towards the USA

Even if that data is skewed still the US has many of the world's best higher learning institutions and the proof is in the number of international students that apply and go to study there.

The contribution of US institutions in science and technology is immense and unmatched by that of any other country. So it comes as no surprise to me for the US to dominate the list.

If peace means the absence of war then we are a peaceful country. But if peace means equal justice to all then I doubt we can claim that title. Remember, no justice no peace.

O-p-p,

..which ever way you coin it, we should have the best Higher learning and research Institution that is specialised in what we claim to be the best in.

NB:

..halafu kwenye hiyo ranking, sijaona Columbia Univ, ambayo wanadai wameshinda Nobel Prize nyingi kuliko chuo kikuu chochote kile duniani.

Truth is we are not best at anything. The claim that we're the most peaceful country in sub saharan Africa is phony. Our supposed peace is due to our extremely docile nature. We exhibit an incredible amount of docility that you'd be hard pressed to find it elsewhere. If you tell me we are best at medicrity and incompetence I might agree with you.

Hii orodha ni ya all time au ni ya mwaka huu tu? Maana nijuavyo mimi kila mwaka wanatoa hizi orodha na mara nyingine hizi taasisi huwa zinashuka na kupanda...
