Aid workers said Wednesday they estimated that around 20,000 people have fled inter-clan clashes in Moyale and crossed into neighbouring Ethiopia and needed support after a recent upsurge in deadly clashes.

Clashes in northern Kenya between rival clans in recent weeks have forced tens of thousands of people to flee into neighbouring Ethiopia, the UN has said.

"Conflict between the Borana and Gabra clans in northern Kenya has displaced tens of thousands of people," the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a report released Tuesday.

The majority of those who have crossed into Ethiopia were living with host families, UN added.

Food for 15,000 people has been sent to the area, along with plastic sheets and household items for some 3,000 people, it added.

Fighting over land grazing rights in Kenya's northern Moyale region killed at least 18 people last month after two days of intense violence between men armed with automatic rifles and machetes.

The region was hard hit by severe drought in the Horn of Africa last year, exacerbating tensions over land in the area, and sparking tit-for-tat cattle raids.

Clashes between rival cattle herding pastoralists in the region are common, with herders often carrying guns to protect their animals, but the recent fighting has been unusually heavy.

I am not intending to rub bad anyone...! It is just a news worth sharing...!

Sad, but with their arrogance, they deserve it! Why don't they use their newly acquired fighter planes to airlift food for the victims..they keep amassing weapons, buying naval ships while their people are in a mess. Nyang'au will never cease to amaze me!

Nyinyi wakati watu wanakuwa na ubinifu wa kuwa na mawazo bora kwa jamii na kushuhudia maendeleo na jinsi afrika tunaeza kujikimu bila misaada kutoka kwa wazungu na nchi za kigeni, you are here siting in self-denial na kugossip kama wanawali tu?!

Ikiwa kenya inanunua mizinga kujistawisha kijeshi mnawashwa sana. Juzi rais wenu alisema tz haina pesa. Je! umechunguza ukajua kuwa mnanyoroshwa fulusi zenu in broad daylight, ilhali mwalala 4-4-4 kujenga a shopping mall in the heart of nairobi ilhali your people are living poverty. Kwanini JMK anasema sasa serikali haina pesa wakati yuko karibu kutoka uongozini? Mbona hakusema hivyo akiingia uongozini. Endelea kuvuta blanketi maana mnalaliwa mlango wazi ilhali hamjielewi. Kwa hayo, ni nani nyangau zaidi ya wengine.?

Afadhali hata kama warships zinaingia na pesa za wananchi twaziona zikiiniga, lakini ninyi zenu zafurushwa kufadhili wengine wa dunia nyingine. You and your friend ulole must just be freshmen in campus or you are just doing your secondary level education based on your thoughts and your naivety.:smash:

no one is starving to death in Kenya. It is, however, instructive to note that some of you seem to be engaging in schadenfreude over this!
