The Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) should do something about mobile phone subscribers being bombarded with unsolicited SMS from network operator.
Mobile phone companies have found an inexpensive way of promoting their services and new products through broadcast text messaging, much to the annoyance of customers.
Sometimes you can receive at least three or more messages everyday, including the middle of the night.
It is very annoying when your phone beeps to alert you of an incoming SMS, only to discover that it is your network operator promoting some services or advertising a promotion
It is especially exasperating when you get these junk SMSs when expecting important messages.
Mobile phone companies initially attached advertisement to their free Please call me messages, but they have now gone a step further are sending unsolicited SMSs to their customers.
TCRA should intervene as a matter of urgency and spare us this inconvenience.
These unsolicited SMSs are not any different from junk email. The only difference is that the Operators of popular email services such as MICROSOFT, Google, Yahoo are doing all in their power to keep junk mail out of users inboxes.
Mobile Phone Companies should use Medias to advertise their services, promotion and competition instead of taking shortcuts that inconvenience their Customers.
