Tanzania to go Wireless

Yetu macho na masikio, mtakao anza kutumia tujulisheni maana mimi bado niko sceptical, ni kama wamezidisha chumvi kwenye mafanikio yanayoweza kupatikana.

...hakuna sababu ya kufikiria hivyo,WIMAX ita deliver no doubt na imeanza,is new & good technology,India & China sasa ndio inachukua speed na nchi za US & western sio sana kwa sababu walisha invest heavy kwenye technology nyingine zamani ndio maana sio sana,INTEL wametengeneza wimax chip ambayo itaanza kuwa shipped this Dec ambayo itawekwa kwenye computer zote zinazotumia intel

Koba,

....what i know Wimax is very good na iko tested tayari lakini traction ni ndogo just for this one reason, makampuni mengi yalishainvest heavy kwenye tech nyingine (i think ni 3G or 4G not sure hapo) ndio maana wako reluctant kuweka pesa zao kwenye wimax wakati kule kwingine bado hazijarudi ila INTEL single handedly ameamua kuipeleka hii tech to masses(kasome utaelewa ninachoongea),na hali ilivyo sasa WIMAX itasaidia sana third world kuliko hao wengine kwa sababu za hapo juu, trust me nimefuatilia WIMAX for yrs na kwa nchi kama yetu sitashangaa in 2 yrs Tanzania nzima tukawa blanketed na high speed internet kuliko umeme wa TANESCO

Sawa mkuu, bado nitaomba kujua juu ya mafanikio ya hao Readline huko TZ. Hata China ulikosema sehemu kubwa bado wako kwenye testing phase.

Koba,

Koba,

Una simplify kweli mambo. Si unajua Intel ndio supplier mkuu wa karibu chips nyingi kwenye telecom equipments? Kwahiyo kusema

product nzima inafanya kazi.

Ningelikuwa mimi ni hao HotSpots, ningelikuwa optmistic but cautious.

Very simple indeed.

ICTs moving to schools and villages

2007-11-17 08:59:59 Gurdian
By Felix Andrew

The government has said will not back track from its resolve to extend information and communication technologies (ICTs) to rural areas and schools.

This was reiterated Thursday in Dar es Salaam by the Minister for Infrastructure Development, Andrew Chenge, during the launching of a new Wimax Broadband wireless Network in Tanzania.

In a speech read on his behalf by acting Director of Communication in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Engineer August Kowero, Minister Chenge said currently ICT experts are doing countrywide tours to sensitize people on the importance of the technology in modern world.

Some of the areas which the team has already visited are Singida, Hai, Iringa, Mbeya, Mtwara, Kinampanda and Mpwapwa.

`In those areas visited, we discovered that people are enthusiastic about the technology and are willing to adopt it,` he said.

The Minister said the globalization process has made it necessary for the Tanzanian government to embrace ICT as a strategic sector for the development.

He called on all players in the ICT industry to support government`s initiative so as to move the economy ahead.

`I commend the Hotspot Business Solution (HBS) for choosing to invest in ICT , which is a priority sector in Tanzania, and for forging strategic alliance with renowned companies to ensure not only provision of high quality services but also to acquire modern technology`, he said.

Speaking earlier, the HBS operations manager, Daniel Noni said the company will support government efforts by focusing on disseminating information and education to the general public especially in higher learning institutions.

`Our main target in the provision of the service to students in colleges at affordable price,` he said.

At the moment, the wireless services will be available in Dar es Salaam region, but would later be extended to Mwanza, Arusha, Zanzibar, Morogoro and Dodoma regions as well.

We might look good, and have all the access lakini ndio hivyo nguo ya kuazima.

Cable link offers Africa cheaper phone charges
CHARLES KIZIGHA said:

Daily News; Saturday,November 17, 2007 @00:04

THE 13,000-kilometre state-of-the-art undersea fibre optic cable will start to be laid in the Indian Ocean early next year after investors have made available 650 million US dollars (747bn/-) for the project.

The President of SEACOM, a consortium that is undertaking the project, Mr Brian Herlihy, told the 'Daily News on Saturday' over the telephone from Nairobi that the cable would bring down the current tariffs for mobile phones, Internet and other communication facilities by 80 per cent. He said that the investors signed a 650m US dollars (747bn/-) agreement in Nairobi mid this week for the undersea fibre optic cable project.

He said that construction of the project for the broadband link from Mtunzini, South Africa, to Mumbai, India, and Marseille in France via Mozambique, Madagascar, Kenya and Tanzania would be completed in June 2009. The investors in SEACOM consortium include Industrial Promotion Services (IPS) of Kenya, Venfin Limited, Convergence Partners, Shanduka Group and Nedbank Capital all of South Africa and Herakles Telecom LLC of the US.

Mr Herlihy said that manufacturing of the high-tech cable and undersea repeaters would start next week in the US and Japan.

Mr Herlihy said that SEACOM has already invested more than 10 million US dollars (11.2bn/-) on the marine survey and engineering of the cable. “This advance has allowed SEACOM to maintain its ready for service date June 2009”, he added.

Naona kila kampuni inaingia Africa kwa fujo sasa, HIZI NI HABARI NZURI TUTAFIKA TU.

Naona kila kampuni inaingia Africa kwa fujo sasa, HIZI NI HABARI NZURI TUTAFIKA TU.

Dau,

Afadhali hata hawa, wanachotaka kufanya kina make sense maana ndio tatizo kubwa la Afrika.

Wanabodi naomba kuwakilisha swali hili,
Hivi tulipopigania Uhuru wetu tulikuwa na malengo gani haswa? maanake wakoloni walikuwa tayari kutujengea vitu vyote hivi kwa faida (Uchumi) wa nchi zao na ndivyo tunafanya leo hii.. then what was the use of gaining Independence in the first place!
