Another resident of Arusha, this time a man of Swiss origin, has been caught here hoarding a pack of wildlife species at his home.
Mr Paul Strobel, a resident of Olasiti gardens in the suburbs of Arusha City, was keeping two live zebras in his homestead which by the time wildlife officials made scene there, resembled a miniature game park.
This development comes hardly two weeks after the other Arusha resident Ms Rahma Hassan was discovered to be living with three live cheetahs inside her house in the Sombetini ward.
The zonal head of wildlife division here, Mr Charles Mvungi stated that Mr Strobel has been keeping the two Zebras for over six years with no worries despite the fact that it was illegal to capture such state trophies.
I did not capture the animals, they simply wondered into my homestead and I decided to take care of them, claimed the Swiss.
Tourism, which is Tanzanias biggest foreign income earning industry, relies solely on wildlife. Figures from the Tanzania Tourist Board indicate that more than 70 percent of foreign visitors, who come into the country for leisure tours, opt for wildlife gazing activities in the local national parks.
Arusha, which is the hub of Tanzanias tourism industry, is the destination for over 80 percent of the total foreign visitors touring the country whose total number is around 800,000 per year.
Arusha is gateway to the Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Arusha National Parks, as well as the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, the Loliondo Game Controlled Area, Mkomazi and Mount Kilimanjaro game parks, all abundant with millions of wildlife.
