In March 2009, a delegation of Tanzanian National TV Station took a four-day visit in Star during which a MOU was signed signifying Star will cooperate with Tanzanian National TV Station in the construction and the operation of Tanzania's National Digital TV Project, the second national Digital TV project following the Rwanda's project in the Eastern African Community.
The delegation of this visit was leaded by Mr Turuka, permanent secretary in charge of the department of News, Culture, and Sports; the delegation consists of four members including Mr. Mhando and Mr. Lyimo, president and acting general manager of the Tanzanian National TV Station. The objective of the delegations visit was to sign the relevant MOU and discuss the related matters regarding Star's cooperation with Tanzanian National TV Station in terms of the construction and the operation of the National Digital TV Project.
Situated in the eastern part of Africa, at 945,000 km2 and with a population of 40,000,000 people, the United Republic of Tanzania is one of the Eastern African Community Countries.Conform to the development tendency of digitalization in the radio-television industry and the time-table of digitalization fixed by the International Telecommunication Union Organization, Tanzanian government decided to launch and finish the digitalization and popularization of the National Digital TV Project as soon as possible.
In December 2008, Tanzanian Broadcasting Corporation looked for cooperating partner in terms of the construction and the operation of the project through international tender, relying on her general strength and rich national and international Digital TV operation experience, Star won the tender. The board of directors of the Tanzanian National TV Station announced this result and authorized the TV Station and Star to establish a joint-venture company for the construction and the operation of the project; the delegation's visit was to officially launch the bilateral cooperation.
After the visit, Star sent a technical team to Tanzania for a local investigation so as to well prepare for the implementation of the project. The two sides plan to sign an official joint-venture agreement in April and launch the implementation of the project.
