CAREER OPPORTUNITY: Maintenance Supervisor


Kabanga Nickel Co. Limited is a Tanzanian-based company managing the Kabanga Nickel Project in Ngara District. The company is looking to recruit Maintenance Supervisor to join its team.

The Maintenance Supervisor will work in conjunction with the Site Management to ensure all repairs/ upgrades are completed to required specifications. Reporting to Kabanga’s Site Logistics Lead/Site Manager, this position will be based at the Kabanga Nickel camp with schedule to be determined. Employment is on a 1 year contract (renewable) basis.

In accordance with Kabanga Nickel’s local hiring policy:

Preference will be given to qualified applicants who currently reside in or are originally from the following villages: Bugarama, Rwinyana, Mumiramira, Mukubu, Muganza and Nyabihanga.
Favourable consideration will also be given to qualified applicants who currently reside in or are originally from the following villages: Bukiriro, Muyenzi, Rulenge, Mukalinzi, Magamba, Murusagamba, Ntanga, Kumubuga and Nyakahura.

Key Responsibilities:

Plans, supervises and monitors daily/ regular maintenance of all infrastructure at Kabanga site (mechanical, electrical, general)
Supervises all maintenance staff at Kabanga site, communicates and implements relevant policies and procedures and coordinates materials handling and equipment usage
Oversees and coordinates maintenance-related contractors’ site activities and their access to site infrastructure and ensures these contractors’ HSE plan and SOP’s meet or exceed those of KNCL.
Ensures that the KNCL vehicle fleet is adequately serviced and maintains up to date service records; overall supervision and control of drivers
Proactively develops and implements modifications and improvements to existing infrastructure
Ensures that staff are adequately trained to conduct maintenance/ servicing activities and that they follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Maintains effective communication with Site Logistics Lead, Site Manager, Construction Manager and other department heads at Kabanga site
Monitors the usage and inventory of all maintenance supplies and equipment at Kabanga site, and initiates re-ordering of supplies when necessary
Collates all data on fuel distribution at Kabanga site, and produces monthly summary report as required
Produces weekly and monthly maintenance/ servicing reports as required
Provides input into the development of annual and long term operating budgets for the assigned areas of responsibility
Performs other duties as required or directed by camp management

Candidate profile:

The successful candidates will have the following attributes:

Bachelor of Science Degree (minimum) in Civil or Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
At least 5 years’ experience working with Mining and/ or Remote Camp infrastructure
Registered as an engineer with the Tanzanian Engineers Registration Board (ERB);
Must possess a valid Tanzanian Drivers Licence for light vehicle operation
Good computer skills and knowledge of database systems would be an advantage
