HYDERABAD: A Tanzanian couple has been detained for carrying a revolver and seven live cartridges at the Rajiv Gandhi International airport in Shamshabad in Hyderabad.

Shande Solam Mbege and his wife Monica from Tanzania were boarding a flight on Monday night when security personnel found live bullets during the luggage scan, airport sources said on Tuesday.

The bullets were found in the luggage of Monica. The duo arrived in Hyderabad on February 4 for treatment as Shande was suffering from paralysis. After treatment at a hospital they were on their return journey, they said.

Though Shande has a license for his revolver, carrying bullets without proper permission in our country is an illegal act, sources added.

The couple was detained by the airport police.
