CCM Central Committee has directed
that preferential voting be conducted
afresh in Arumeru East constituency in
a quest to get its candidate for the by-
election.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday,
the CCM Publicity and Ideology
Secretary, Nape Nnauye said the
central committee reached the
decision because none of the
candidates scored more than 50
percent of all the votes.
He said fresh voting will be held on
Thursday March 1, this year, and be
overseen by Pius Msekwa, CCM Vice –
chairman (Maniland), Capt. John
Chiligati, CCM Deputy Secretary
General (Mainland) and Constacia
Buhiye, CCM chairperson for Kagera
region.
After the vote, the CCM district and
region political committees will meet
on Friday March 2 to evaluate the
whole process, including the results.
On March 3rd the CCM Central
Committee will meet to evaluate the
results and recommendations from
the district and regional political
committees before approving the
name of the party’s candidate for the
upcoming by-election, said Nnauye.
Nnauye explained further that the
voting exercise will only involve two
candidates, Sioi Sumari and William
Sarakikya who garnered more votes
than the other aspirants.
Sumari and Sarakikya scored 331 and
259 votes respectively.
In other development, Nnauye refuted
rumours that Sioi Sumari was not a
citizen, noting that no proof was given
to bar him from contesting.
He said “all the official organs
responsible for dealing with
citizenship issues in the country have
confirmed that Sumari is a citizen.”
