    Joel Bendera

Abuse of public funds and denial of justice in delivering public service will not be tolerated and dishonest civil servants should consider creating space for equally skilled folks to replace them, the new Morogoro Regional Commissioner, Mr Joel Bendera said on Saturday.

Mr Bendera exclusively informed the ‘Sunday News' here that the first meeting with the regional secretariat was meant to set direction for effective undertaking of duties, "it is no longer business as usual. Each of us must deliver."

All planned community development projects in the region with funds already set aside must be implemented without excuses, he said. He also cautioned that people may resent the government simply because a few corrupt individuals don't deliver and promised that the region will make a difference.

He cited as an example the problem of double allocation of plots with all documents bearing "genuine" signatures of land officials. "Such dubious dealings will not have room anymore," said the former Deputy Minister for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture.

He challenged professionals in the region like extension officers, teachers and others to stop the practice of just signing the attendance register and relax but instead prove to be committed, innovative and honest.

"I hate the language ‘come back tomorrow' among land officers and other officials while solutions to problems facing the people are readily at hand," he said. "Remember there are thousands of equally talented graduates ready to take over these jobs," he warned those abusing their positions.

The regional commissioner further said that under his leadership implementation of community development projects would be assessed in terms of value for money. "The first people that will have some serious explaining to do are going to be district engineers," he added.

"The tendency of public officials protecting one another is unacceptable, each must be ready to take criticism where necessary and praise for a job well done but more importantly people's mindsets in rendering services to the public must change," Bendera stressed. He pledged to ensure justice, fairness, incentives and compliments go to the deserving people and those who would be found breaking the law would be punished accordingly.

We should give him benefit of doubt and wait and see what he might deliver on his new post. He is among the remaining menschens and staunch loyalists of JK.

if in more than 15 years he failed to deliver, what do you expect of him to do for this nation at his age? You just are hoping against hope that the best will come out of worst. no chance my friend. The man isn't worthy talking about him bringing positive changes to the nation.
