In the case of today’s European economies the fatality, the “Kissinger factor,” consists of the economic suicide imposed on it by the United States and culminating in the war in Ukraine, but prepared and instigated for a long time.

The self-destructive vocation of Europe was predicted by Nietzsche two centuries ago with the concept of “European nihilism”.

His dress test was the two world wars of the twentieth century. The path towards the final solution began with the vassalage towards the USA established after 1945. Europe’s subjection was not linear.It unfolded in alternating phases, with bouts of independence during which the Old Continent reclaimed its sovereignty.

The most important jolt produced the birth of the European Union and of a currency, the Euro, potentially an alternative to the dollar. But then Europe fell further and further down, until the current terminal phase.The break with Russia in 2022, with the war in Ukraine, reverses the European Union’s path towards the East and nullifies the formula of its capitalism. This rupture entails three lethal consequences, destined to worsen in the coming years unless reactions dictated by the survival instinct.

The first effect is the continuation of the long-term stagnation of European capitalism that began in the 1970s. The Monetary Fund’s forecasts are clear: the Union’s GDP will remain close to zero for at least three years, in contrast to that of the USA, Russia and the rest of the world.The stop is mostly due to sanctions against the oil and gas that Europe purchased at low prices from Russia before 2022. Oil and gas that after the outbreak of the war are purchased by the USA at prices up to 4-5 times superior!Nobody talks about the real terms of the energy supply issue. You will find hundreds of articles about how good we were at reducing gas imports from Russia in the space of a year, without almost any of them talking about the crazy prices of energy bills now paid to the United States.

The US has pushed its European allies towards extreme sanctions against Moscow.
A few weeks after the start of hostilities they pressured Ukraine into fighting instead of concluding an already almost negotiated agreement.
And they completed the job by destroying the North Stream pipeline in September 2022: all in broad daylight, after Biden had warned allies that the pipeline was doomed.

An act of war against Germany swallowed by its elite as if it were nothing. It is with these methods that the United States has secured first place among the exporters of liquefied gas to Europe and the world.Furthermore, Europe has become the first destination for their oil: 1.8 million barrels per day compared to 1.7 towards Asia and Oceania.


A “Kissinger-style” blow against the transatlantic allies which the Bruegel center estimated to cost almost a point and a half of the European Union’s GDP.A blow that is the greatest cost of the NATO war against Russia.Added to the expenditure on armaments and the other costs of belligerence, we are around – again according to Bruegel – 316 billion euros, equal to 2% of the Union’s GDP in 2022.
A figure increased in 2023 and which corresponds, coincidentally, to the difference between +2.4 of the US GDP and +0.4 of the Union.All through halter contracts signed with the USA by Von der Leyen and various European governments which protect Uncle Sam from any changes to his senses by the counterparty through multi-five-year deadlines.Furthermore, the increase in energy prices is responsible for 40% of the increase in inflation in Europe. And another 40% is due to the super profits of European gas importers.
One should not be surprised, then, if Politico.eu blog collects the outbursts of senior Brussels leaders “furious with the Biden Administration which is accumulating a fortune through the war at the expense of European countries.The United States is the country that is profiting the most from the war because it sells more gas at higher prices, and because it sells more weapons” (24.11.2022). But the history of European nihilism does not stop here.

The second lethal element is the sharp loss of competitiveness of European industries compared to American ones caused by the surge in energy prices.There is no local manufacturing industry that can withstand an energy cost 4 times higher than that incurred by the competition.You will not find any mention of the “Kissinger factor” in former Italian PM Draghi and Letta’s anguished and cowardly reports on the future of the European system.The most beaten (or rather, self-beaten) country was Germany, which is witnessing the destruction of its industrial base and the flight of hundreds of its companies to the United States.The latter are also attracted by the incentives of the Inflation Reduction Act.

A mix of favorable measures equivalent to the infamous “state aid” from Brussels that Biden is distributing liberally to his “friends” across the Atlantic to have entire pieces of their production apparatus transferred to the USA.The legendary Germany has become a country in the process of de-industrialization as well as the nation with the worst performance among all advanced economies: GDP at -0.3% in 2023-24.

The third lethal potion that Europe must swallow is the end of its growth model of the last thirty years, based on Russia and China. It was Josep Borrell himself who candidly declared to the EU ambassadors, in October 2022, that:

“our prosperity was based on China and Russia: energy and the market. Cheap energy from Russia and access to the Chinese market for imports, exports, investments and cheap consumer goods… That world is no more.”The decline of that growth formula has pushed what remains of European capitalism into a dead end. Russia reacted to the clash with Europe by accelerating its integration into an increasingly successful Asian economic space. In just two years, Russia’s trade with Asia went from 26 to 71%.In this space, China and India are becoming even more competitive compared to Europe and the United States thanks to the discount on the prices of hydrocarbons now imported from Russia. A space that has also become safer because transactions between the major powers in Asia now take place through their national currencies instead of dollars.Is there anyone able to affirm, then, that there is a growth model of European capitalism alternative to the one just destroyed by the “Kissinger factor”? Will neoliberal babble about “more market” and “more Europe” ever replace a credible new narrative on Europe’s place in the post-American and multipolar world order that has now clearly emerged?

Macron is right in some sense,but it is unlikely that his dreams will ever be achieved.Now why are his dreams unlikely to be met.And given the fact that Macrons dreams will never be achieved,what do you foresee as being the end game.
