Rwandan peacekeepers serving under Rwanbatt36 (67 Infantry Battalion) in the African Union–United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (Unamid), Sudan, have received medals for a job well-done.

The awards ceremondy, which aimed at recognising the good job well-done by the peacekeepers in Unamid, took place on Saturday in Kabkabiya, North Darfur.

Rwandans were decorated together with a contingent of Mongolian Level Two Hospital.

Lt. Gen. Ignace Paul Mella, the Unamid Force Commander, accompanied by Col. Ludoviko Mugisha, Rwanda's Contingent Commander in Darfur, was the guest of honour at the ceremony, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence.

Noting that Rwandan peacekeepers have good cooperation with forces from other countries, Gen. Mella commended the Rwandan government for contributing troops to the peacekeeping mission in Sudan, the statement said.

He also commended Rwandan peacekeepers for a job well done, discipline, commitment to the mission and good relationship with Darfurians.

The ceremony was also marked by a volleyball match between Jordan Formed Police Unit and Rwanbatt 36 that ended on 3-0 in favour of Rwanda Defence Forces team.

The function ended with a cultural show by the contingents later that evening.
