ACT Wazalendo’ Government Oversight Committee (Shadow Cabinet) express our concerns on escalating tensions between Israel and Palestine that has had devastating effects on the lives of people in the region for the past 75 years.
We reiterate the AU statement recalling that denial of the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people people, particularly that of an independent and sovereign state, is the main cause of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian tension. So, without hesitation the escalating tension is a result of continued repression and occupation of Palestinians in their own land.
ACT Wazalendo calls on the Tanzanian government to be as clear as possible on its position regarding the current situation as the issued statement is very ambiguous. Tanzania has long stood and calls for support to Palestinans as it was made clear by the Founding father of the nation Mwl. Julius Nyerere once said “we have never hesitated in our support for the right of the people of Palestine to have their own land.”
Lastly, ACT Wazalendo further calls for the international community to support implementation of the proposed two state solution to permanently restore the peace and harmony in the region.
