"His Excellency Michael Sata, President of Zambia, has revoked the appointment of Mr Sebastian Zulu......as Minister of Justice," a statement issued by his spokesperson George Chellah said.
But the statement neither announced Mr Zulu's replacement nor gave reasons for President Sata's abrupt move.
"The Head of State confirmed the revocation of the appointment in his letter to Mr Zulu dated August,2012," Mr Chellah added.
President Sata also dismissed a Southern Province permanent secretary, Mr Edwin Zumbunu, replacing him with a respected academic from the University of Zambia, Dr Chileshe Mulenga.
The presidency said the changes took effect immediately.
