Mamlaka Nchini humo zimetangaza kusitishwa mikusanyiko ya kisiasa kuelekea Uchaguzi Mkuu wa Agosti 12, ili kukabiliana na ongezeko la maambukizi ya Virusi vya Corona.

Hivi karibuni Taifa hilo limerekodi vifo 48 ndani ya siku moja, idadi ambayo ni kubwa zaidi kuripotiwa. Shule zote zitafungwa kwa siku 21 huku Mikutano na Warsha ikizuiwa hadi itakapotangazwa vinginevyo.

The authorities in Zambia have announced a raft of measures, including suspending political rallies for the 12 August election, to deal with a surge in coronavirus infections.

In the last 24 hours, the southern African nation has recorded 48 deaths from Covid-19 - the highest toll the country has reported.

Simon Miti, secretary to the cabinet, told a media briefing that in the last 24 hours out of 12,928 tests, 3,026 were found to be positive for Covid-19.

To mitigate the surge, Dr Miti said all schools would close for 21 days while tertiary institutions would conduct online classes for a month.

All conferences and general workshops were suspended until further notice, Dr Miti added.
