The reported incident on Sunday involving Chris Brown and girlfriend Rihanna has escalated.

TMZ reports on Monday that crime reports confirm that Rihanna, 20, is the alleged victim in the assault. The report states Robyn Fenty, which is the singer's legal name. The singer is reportedly still in the hospital and is being treated for severe facial contusions.

Following Brown's arrest, Reuters reports that Wrigley has suspended the singer's Doublemint Gum ad campaign. The campaign, which includes a television commercial featuring Brown has been pulled off the air.

"We have made the decision to suspend the current advertising featuring Brown...until the matter is resolved," the company said in a statement.

Brown, 19, has hired celebrity lawyer Mark Geragos to represent him. His court date is scheduled for March 5.

The incident resulted in both singers cancelling their appearances on Sunday night's Grammy Awards.

Brown has cancelled his upcoming appearance at the NBA All-Star game this weekend and according to E Online, Rihanna's New York City birthday bash on Feb. 20 has also been canned.

Their representatives have yet to comment, following the arrest.

Rihanna Cooperates In Chris Brown Investigation

Rihanna is reportedly cooperating with police in the investigation into the incident on Sunday morning that resulted in boyfriend Chris Brown's arrest for making criminal threats.

More details are emerging about the alleged assault, including reports from TMZ - which had erroneously reported on Monday that Brown was being charged with assault with a deadly weapon in the case - that unnamed law enforcement sources described Rihanna's injuries as "horrific." Photos of the wounds reportedly show major contusions on both sides of the 20-year-old singer's face, with serious swelling and bruising, including a split lip and a bloody nose, as well as bite marks on one of her arms and several fingers.

TMZ also reported that Rihanna initially refused treatment at the scene, but allowed police to take photos of her injuries before being transported to the hospital. The Los Angeles Police Department, citing rules to protect the victims of domestic violence, would not confirm that Rihanna was the victim in the case, but she has been named by a number of media outlets, including the Los Angeles Times, which broke with its editorial policy because of what it described as the high-profile nature of the case, according to HuffingtonPost.com.

Los Angeles police would not confirm to MTV News where the victim was taken for treatment, but Radar Online reported that an unnamed eyewitness saw Rihanna being treated for injuries at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Sunday.

"Rihanna was brought through the back entrance on a gurney, flanked by two LAPD officers," the source said. "It was impossible to know it was her at first because when they wheeled her past me, she had the hood on her fuchsia-colored sweatshirt tightly drawn round her face and she was wearing big brown sunglasses. ... I knew the person was famous because of all the attention she was being given by security and medical staff."

The witness said the curtain was not drawn the entire time and they were able to confirm that it was Rihanna and that she was interviewed by police for nearly an hour. "Rihanna was clearly very upset by what had happened and I could hear her screaming," the eyewitness said. "Rihanna was trying to get her point across about something; she sounded like she was crying as she tried to get to put her point across."

Brown reportedly fled the scene of the incident on foot with the keys to the rented silver Lamborghini the couple was driving in following the alleged attack, leaving Rihanna "beaten really badly and hysterical" by the side of the road, a source told E! Online.

"Rihanna didn't want anyone to touch her, she was in so much pain," the source said. A member of the 20-year-old's "inner circle" told E! that Rihanna's family is making plans to get her out of Los Angeles. "They want to get her back to Barbados. They want to keep her away from Chris right now."

Brown and Rihanna, who had been dating for a year, had reportedly hit a rough patch recently. They attended Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party on Saturday night prior to the alleged incident, but, according to reports, got into a heated argument in the car ride home following the event.

Spokespeople for the artists have made no public statements in the wake of the scandal.

Brown was booked on felony criminal threats on Sunday and released on $50,000 bail. He could reportedly face additional domestic-violence counts should the district attorney decide to press charges; the D.A.'s office has not yet received the case for review. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 5.

Singers Keshia Chante and Leona Lewis have both denied that they were the woman who sent Chris Brown a text message the night he allegedly assaulted Rihanna.

Chante's manager, Mona Scott, told Us Weekly that rumours about the Canadian singer's role in the altercation was completely false. "She was nowhere near Rihanna or Chris Brown," she said. "She had nothing to do with any of that."

Despite insisting she barely knows Brown, Chante may be linked to the troubled singer thanks to a segment from Entertainment Tonight Canada that had her showing him around Toronto and, according to MTV News, in a later interview she sent Brown a text to meet up, which he reportedly accepted.

"I think they met a few years back, probably three or four years ago, in Canada. But that's it,'' Scott continued on Chante's behalf. ``It's crazy - there's been a continuous kind of reporting of them linked together, and this has been the worst of it all. But, no - she had absolutely nothing to do with them or any of that."

For Lewis, the connection to Brown, Rihanna and the incident is a little more direct. According to the Daily Mirror, Brown was seen speaking with Lewis at a pre-Grammys bash shortly before the alleged assault.

"Rihanna saw Chris flirting,'' a source tells the Mirror. ``He and Leona were laughing and Rihanna saw his hand on the small of her back. It was totally innocent but it set Rihanna off."

However, Lewis's rep denies that any flirting, innocent or otherwise, ever occurred.

Lewis's spokeswoman told ABC News: "Leona was seated with her family and long-term boyfriend Lou . . . at a table near Rihanna and Chris at Clive Davis's pre-Grammy party. Chris was introduced to Leona by Rihanna. She said something like 'hello' and they chatted for a couple of minutes. Leona . . . had nothing whatsoever to do with any argument that may have ensued between Chris and Rihanna. Any allegations that the pair had flirted are completely false."

Recent media reports about the Rihanna/Chris Brown incident suggest a fight broke out as the couple was driving home from Davis's pre-Grammy party because Brown received a suggestive text message from another woman.

Chris Brown says he's 'sorry and saddened'

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Chris Brown, who was arrested a week ago in connection with a domestic violence investigation, says he is "sorry and saddened" over what happened.

In a brief statement released through publicist Michael Sitrick on Sunday, Brown says he is seeking counseling from loved ones and family members.

He also says much of what has been reported of the Feb. 8 incident is wrong, although he doesn't elaborate.

Brown was booked by Los Angeles police on Feb. 8 for allegedly making a criminal threat. He has not been charged by the district attorney and is free on $50,000 bail while the case is under investigation.
