Capacity of the new terminal
According to the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), the new terminal will see to an increase in discharge capacity over ten times, this means that the new facility will store up to 400,000 metric tonnes up from the current 35,000 tonnes.
The terminal will have the capacity to handle four vessels of up to 100,000 DWT (Dead Weight Tonnage) and will have a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) line that is expected to help stabilize gas supply in the country.
Initially, construction was to be finalised by 2019 but the cancellation of an initial 2016 tender to include a liquified petroleum gas line pushed the completion time to 2022.
Mombasa port currently has only two oil terminals that are ageing and too small to handle large quantities of imported oil and gas. The new US $400m Kipevu Oil Terminal will supplement the two facilities at Shimanzi and the old Kipevu terminal.

Total (T) launches $20m oil blending plant
TOTAL (T) Ltd has launched an Oil Blending Plant (LOBP) worth 46.2bn/- (US$20 million) which will see more than 15,000 metric tons of lubricants, greases and coolants blended locally for the domestic and export markets to nearby regions.

Investment in the blending plant will allow the company to reinforce its growth and expansion strategy to contribute to Tanzania’s industrial development, Managing Director Tarik Moufaddal declared in its launching late last week.

He said for close to 50 years the multinational company distributed and marketed lubricants that were imported from other affiliates of the group or locally blended.

The blending plant shall also boost employment opportunities for Tanzanians. He said since 2017 when Total announced the take-over of Gapco, with more than 60 service stations and one of the largest depots in the country, the company has implemented a strategic upgrade of its general trade sites, rebranding and integrating Gapco sites in synergy with Total standards and depot facility upgrade. "We are here to share with you another investment milestone for Total in Tanzania as we announce the official launch of this plant which marks a total global investment of more than US$180million in Tanzania over the last two years,” he said.

Total has major blending plants in Kenya and Zambia but despite this fact it has undertaken the new blending plant upgrade, as a sign of trust in the country’s economy and its future, he remarked.

The Minister for Trade and Industries Joseph Kakunda who officiated the event commended the company for its commitment towards industrialisation in Tanzania.

The minister said the government was ready to support Total (T) in its endeavours and promised continued support for its industrial undertakings. In 2015 alone, the government imported 1.9 million tonnes of oil products including lubricants. “Lubricants are important industries, therefore what Total is doing today is a complement to what the government is working on,” the minister underlined.

IN SUMMARY
  • IPP group is in collaboration with international medical experts plan to set up a laboratory for research and stem cell therapy in Dar es Salaam.
  • The aim is to reduce the number of people seeking funds to fly to India for treatment.

Dar es Salaam. The IPP group through its research, technology and innovation department in collaboration with various international experts, is set to establish a special laboratory for Stem Cell therapy and research by the end of March, this year in Dar es Salaam.

Stem cell therapy, also known as regenerative medicine, promotes the repair response of diseased dysfunctional or injured tissues.

Speaking at the first international medical conference on Genomic, proteomic and medical innovation, IPP chairman, Dr Reginald Mengi, said that the plan was designed to encourage Tanzanians who are giving up on various cell-oriented diseases such as sickle cell and anemia.

"We want to support the government in improving our people's health. Most of Tanzanians especially the poor are giving up due to lack of money to travel to India or elsewhere for treatment and we now want to bring experts closer to them," he said.
He said after consultations with the government, the exercise will start before the end of March.

For his side, the deputy minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Dr Faustine Ndugulile, promised Dr Mengi of the government's support especially in giving out research licences immediately after being okayed by the standards regulatory authority.

The Kenya-Tanzania Power Interconnection Project has moved forward with the division of lots and the commitment of contractors to set up a 510km 400kV transmission line and accompanying substations.

With the completion deadline set for 2020, the project is being implemented by the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) in collaboration with Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco).

The works in Kenya are financed by the government and the African Development Bank (AfDB) at a cost of $4.25 million and $22.42 million respectively, while the Tanzanian project costs $258 million and is funded by a loan from AfDB and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The objective of the Project is to ensure stable and reliable power supply in Tanzania and other East African countries.

The project will also help both countries replace high-cost thermal energy with cheaper hydropower, reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the process.

By 2020, the double-circuit will run from Singida to Isinya in Kenya through Babati, Arusha and Namnga in Tanzania.

Kenya will extend its line to Ethiopia, while Tanzania will extend its line to Zambia, which will connect the East Africa region to the Southern African Power Pool where connected countries will be able to buy and sell electricity from each other.

The East African Power Master Plan (EAPMP), which was developed in 2003, recommended the establishment of a power pool to facilitate electricity trade and joint least cost power development planning in the region.

Eldoret
Malindi
Kisumu
Wilson in Nairobi
Ukunda
Isiolo
I think that adds up to 8 and all of them superior to any airport in TZ apart from JN and Isiolo airport actually looks better than any Tanzanian airport(despite the bland design.Which tells you alot about Tanzania)
