World Bank grants Tanzania 300 mln USD to support education sector

DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank on Friday announced a 300-million-U.S.-dollar grant to Tanzania to support its education sector, said a statement from the country's Directorate of Presidential Communication.


Hafez Ghanem, Vice President of the World Bank for Africa, announced the new grant during talks with Tanzanian President John Magufuli at State House in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, according to the statement.


The grant will be used for improvement of secondary school education in the east African nation including construction of classrooms, dormitories, laboratories and for buying educational materials, said the statement, adding that Ghanem assured President Magufuli of the World Bank's continued support to Tanzania's development projects.


The World Bank has a huge program to support various development projects in Tanzania in the social sector and infrastructure to the tune of 5.2 billion dollars and the bank is impressed with the way these projects are being implemented, said Ghanem.


During the talks, Ghanem praised President Magufuli for efforts undertaken by his administration towards improving the economy and the fight against corruption.


"The World Bank is proud of its partnership with Tanzania and the good results that have been achieved in terms of economic growth and in terms of economic stability," said the Word Bank official.


He added: "We are also proud of the good results in fighting corruption and in improving public services."


For his part, President Magufuli thanked the World Bank for its continued support and pledged that all the grants given by the bank will be spent in implementing development projects.

Ruzuku hizi zitatumika kwa ajili ya uboreshaji wa elimu ya sekondari katika taifa Afrika Mashariki ikiwa ni pamoja na ujenzi wa madarasa, mabweni, maabara na kwa ajili ya kununua vifaa vya elimu, alisema kauli, akiongeza kwamba Ghanem uhakika Rais Magufuli wa Benki ya dunia kuendelea kuisaidia kwa miradi ya maendeleo ya Tanzania.
Benki ya dunia ina programu kubwa ya kusaidia miradi mbalimbali ya maendeleo nchini Tanzania katika sekta ya kijamii na miundombinu kwa kiasi cha dola bilioni 5.2 na benki ni hisia na njia ar hizi miradi
