DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank on Friday announced a 300-million-U.S.-dollar grant to Tanzania to support its education sector, said a statement from the country's Directorate of Presidential Communication.

Hafez Ghanem, Vice President of the World Bank for Africa, announced the new grant during talks with Tanzanian President John Magufuli at State House in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, according to the statement.

The grant will be used for improvement of secondary school education in the east African nation including construction of classrooms, dormitories, laboratories and for buying educational materials, said the statement, adding that Ghanem assured President Magufuli of the World Bank's continued support to Tanzania's development projects.

"The World Bank is proud of its partnership with Tanzania and the good results that have been achieved in terms of economic growth and in terms of economic stability," said the Word Bank official.

He added: "We are also proud of the good results in fighting corruption and in improving public services."
