Winston Churchill graduated Sandhurst Military College, an impressive twentieth out of a class of 130, in December 1894.

Churchill received his commission from Queen Victoria with an effective date of February 20th, 1895, in the Queen's 4th Hussars Calvary.

Lieutenant Churchill, aged twenty-three, rode with the 21st in the British Army’s last cavalry charge on the 2nd September 1898, outside the Sudanese city of Omdurman.
