Export Import Bank China will lend Tanzania $7.6 billion for a railway that will help the East African nation’s landlocked neighbors including Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda transport goods to its port on the Indian Ocean, a government official said.

Tanzania and Exim Bank China will finalize “technical issues on the contract” and sign the financing deal for the 2,200-kilometer (1,367-mile) project soon, Gerson Msigwa, a spokesman for Tanzania’s presidency, said Wednesday by phone from the capital, Dodoma. The standard gauge line will become a major trade artery between Tanzania and its landlocked neighbors, he said.

Tanzania is a “reliable borrower” and the railway line to the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, will lift the economies of other countries in the region, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, President John Magufuli said in an e-mailed statement. Construction may begin this financial year, he said.

The East African nation is the continent’s fifth-biggest gold producer and has estimated reserves of 58 trillion cubic feet of natural gas being developed for export by companies including Statoil ASA and BG Group Plc.

Is the name of the writer betraying seeing Tanzania has her right place on global ranking? Tanzania is the 3rd gold producer in the continent after South Africa and Ghana! Mali production has dropped with the terrorism ravaging the country

I saw this story in a West African publication. I am not sure if the original version is by Kenyan writer.
Anyway, does it matter if you are fifth or first? I thought what matters is the viable quantity and revenue. Not so?

That's a kenyan

Speed.
La sivyo kama speed zitakuwa zilezile what's the whole point?

Haya mambo ya kujenga reli mpya often hua more expensive than can be economically justified.
Speed ya 120km/saa ni achievable hata kwa hii narrow gauge rail iliyopo sasa hivi, on a diesel train. The thing is SGR inauwezo wa kubeba mizigo mingi zaidi at the same speed na narrow gauge. Sasa, swali linakuja. Are we building a new SGR coz hiyo iliyopo imezidiwa mizigo?
What will be done to boost rail carriage of mizigo, given that reli itakuwa inashindana na the well politically connected trucking business? Benki ya dunia ilishazuia nchi kuprotect rail haulage against road.
Tumewashambulia sana wakenya kwamba reli yao ni too expensive lakini na sisi can we justify this investment?
Mi ningeunga mkono kama ingekuwa electric SGR inayosupport high speed passenger and cargo trains. By high speed i mean 180-240 km/hr.

Easy, That seems a honest mistake, nothing of what u are insinuating was really intended.
Googling about the writer, he seems to be from southern Africa, not really a Kenyan.
Worry not Iconoclastes, the man has been 'overrun' by a disease commonly known as 'Kenya phobia'.

Then huko baadae tukipata hela tena tunaendelea na phase two.
