Islamic scholar Tahir ul-Qadri issues terrorism fatwa

An influential Muslim scholar has issued a global ruling against terrorism and suicide bombing. Dr Tahir ul-Qadri, from Pakistan, says his 600-page judgement, known as a fatwa, completely dismantles al-Qaeda's violent ideology.
The scholar describes al-Qaeda as an "old evil with a new name" that has not been sufficiently challenged.
The scholar's movement is growing in the UK and has attracted the interest of policymakers and security chiefs.
In his religious ruling, delivered in London, Dr Qadri says that Islam forbids the massacre of innocent citizens and suicide bombings.
Although many scholars have made similar rulings in the past, Dr Qadri argued that his massive document goes much further by omitting "ifs and buts" added by other thinkers.
He said that it set out a point-by-point theological rebuttal of every argument used by al-Qaeda inspired recruiters.
The populist scholar developed his document last year as a response to the increase in bombings across Pakistan by militants.
'Heroes of hellfire'
The basic text has been extended to 600 pages to cover global issues, in an attempt to get its theological arguments taken up by Muslims in Western nations. It will be promoted in the UK by Dr Qadri's organisation, Minhaj ul-Quran International.
Dr Qadri spoke for more than hour to an audience of Muslims, clergy, MPs, police officers and other security officials.
"They [terrorists] can't claim that their suicide bombings are martyrdom operations and that they become the heroes of the Muslim Umma [global brotherhood]. No, they become heroes of hellfire, and they are leading towards hellfire," he said.
"There is no place for any martyrdom and their act is never, ever to be considered jihad."
Acts of vengeance
The document is not the first to condemn terrorism and suicide bombing to be launched in the UK.

Scholars from across the UK came together in the wake of the 7 July London attacks to denounce the bombers and urge communities to root out extremists.
But some scholarly rulings in the Middle East have argued that the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians is an exceptional situation where "martyrdom" attacks can be justified.
Dr Qadri said he rejected that view saying there were no situations under which acts of vengeance, such as attacks on market places or commuter trains, could ever be considered a justifiable act of war.
Although Dr Qadri has many followers in Pakistan, Minhaj ul-Quran International remained largely unknown in the UK until relatively recently.
It now has 10 mosques in cities with significant Muslim communities and says it is targeting younger generations it believes have been let down by traditional leaders.
The organisation is attracting the attention of policymakers and security chiefs who are continuing to look for allies in the fight against extremists.
The Department for Communities, which runs most of the government's Preventing Violent Extremism strategy, has tried building bridges with a variety of liberal-minded groups, but often found that they have limited actual influence at the grassroots.

Sasa tukija kwenye the right to life, Islam has to act in a way that respects this fundamental human right. Even the interpretation of the scriptures has to be done in this way. (na vile vile kuna jurisprudence na other legal tenants ambazo zinaregulate behaviour zakivita na mazingira ya kuact hivyo, kama Geneva Conventions) All this in Islam.

Kitu kinachotokea ni watu wajinga wanatumia the cowardly way of killing civilians to amass political power, sometimes wanapingana na brutal and oppressive regimes (a major problem in the middle east) na nawajikuta wameshaingia kwenye terrorism mostly by choice. Na ni brainwashing young boys from an early age ndio weapon kubwa. Thr promise of paradise appeals mostly to those in suffering and dispair. This is why most of Prophet Muhammad (SAW)'s first converts Khadija notwithstanding, were poor and social excluded people. The same applies to Jesus the Christ, socially excluded and oppressed people are naturally tha numerous and first to follow him.

Hawa watu wamegundua kitu kimoja katika dini, na ni kwamba inatoa matumaini kwa wale waliopabaya kimaisha na wasio na elimu yakutosha na extinguish any semblance of rationality... So they use these people as weapons to further their violent and totalitarian ideologies. Hizi ni siasa na sio Islam.. Anyone who condemns Islam due to the acts of these people ought to make sure that they understand this first.

So the truth is, the human is a violent, destructive and cruel creature when he can justify it to himself. At the same time he is benevolent and this is what leads to criticism. Ukweli ni kwamba hii karne ya 21 inahitaji mtazamo tofauti katika masuala yanayoface dunia...na kwa sababu hii lazima dini na mawazo yote ambayo yanaaffect siasa yawe interpreted in a manner consistent with the needs of the 21st Century and the principles of law and equality. Shida moja ni kwamba hatuelewani kuhusu hizi principles na mabishano na ugomvi utaendelea tuu.. But to blow one's self up in Lahore and Karachi and NY in hopes of paradise is a mental disease.. Freud would definitely agree with me. And the west must not just fight terror, it must fight the causes:

1. Solve Israeli Palestinian conflict

2. Solve the energy problem... remove reliance on oil and reduce need for direct interference in Middle Eastern affars ( The West wants energy security and is forced to use a heavy hand to power its economies..Anyone who has been on an American highway will understand what I mean).These acts give the extremists a cause.. For example American forces in Saudi Arabia was a major mistake and lack of understanding of Islamic sentiment (a foolish move by the American government and their Saudi counterparts who just wanted their hold on power to be unchallenged so they can breed more princes and buy more Rolls Royce and A380s.)

3. Improve international law on the issue of democracy and force human rights to be respected by all states (major proponents, EU..now that they can afford it..lol, US kind of but not really..major opponents... China, Russia ) Yani hii dunia hii..

4. Nimeongea sana...someone else add to the list.....

Ili iitwe fatwa, Nilazima wasomi mbalimbali wakae pamoja wajadiliane kutoka Qur'an na Sunnah wafikie conculusion ya pamoja ndio itaitwa fatwa.

Sasa huyu njaa na fatwa yake wamekutana na masheikh gani kama sio kununuliwa na kurubuniwa iliawasafishe baby killers?

Kwanini fatwa hii asiintowe huko kwao Pakistani ambako ndiko wanakopigana anaitolea UK?

Hakuna fatwa inayotolewa na mtu mmoja bali hili ni dili, Hawa westerners na Americans ni wauwaji na ni ma-terrorists wakubwa wanaotumia silaa kali kuliko alqaida, hawafai kutetea,

Muuwaji ni muuwaji hatakama atauwa ili ku spread democracy kama wanavyo dai hawa Babies killers.

well, it is a complicated matter. Can we call what Mossad did in Dubai terrorism? What about what Obama is doing with drones in Pakistan and Afghanstan, what about suicide bombers do. Where is the the line of demarcation between a freedom fighter and a terrorist. And who gives the definition of terrorism, and who brands someone a terrorist, George Bush?

And by the way what is Fatwa, who cares about it. Does Bin Laden really care about it? Do those in Gaza who have been under occupation and suffering really care about it.

I think the cleric is making fun of himself.

As far as I understood, nothing new in this article. Majority of muslims clerics of different sect have done or are doing the same thing.

Matyrdom doesn't come automatic with suicide bombing or killing innocent people.
