Dr. Debra Mulongo Barasa- Minister of Health- Kenya

She is a medical doctor specializing in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases with over 18 years of experience. Mulongo has over 15 years of field experience as a senior medical officer with progression to an Internal Medicine Physician and technical advisor having worked in health institutions both national, referral, private and Community Based Organizations.
Additionally, she is an Internal Medicine physician and Infectious Disease Expert at the World Health Organization (WHO).
At the WHO, Mulongo has established sustainable programs in Eastern Southern Africa, supports member states in developing and implementing national action plans and offer technical guidance on global policies and guidelines.
Mulongo has served as an Internal Medicine Consultant Physician at CHANF and worked as an Infectious Diseases Consultant at the World Health Organization.
Academic Qualification
She holds a has a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine from the University of Nairobi from September 2012 – December 2015. Mulongo also has a Master of Science in Infectious Diseases at the
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She also holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Nairobi (October 2001 – December 2006).
Mulongo has also worked as a physician and a Senior Technical Advisor HIV/TB/Communicable and non-communicable disease at the Eastern Deanery Aids Relief Program from November 2008 to July 2023.
Furthermore, she served the role of a Senior House Officer/ Senior Registrar at the Kenyatta National Hospital from September 2012 to September 2017. Mulongo’s core competencies include Internal Medicine/Infectious disease, communicable and non-communicable disease prevention and control for clinical cases and public health programs.
She also has a strong background in developing technical products (guidelines, assessment tools, training modules, SOPs etc.), conducting monitoring and evaluation, partner engagement, leadership and coordination from regional, national to facility as well as community levels.

Before the appointment, he was serving as the Director General of the University Teaching Hospital in Butare (CHUB) and was previously the Director General of Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC).
Dr. Nsanzimana has been a key figure in Rwanda’s health sector and has extensive experience in HIV program design, strategic planning, implementation, and operational research with a focus on global care and treatment of people living with HIV. He also played a key role in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr. Nsanzimana also previously served as Assistant Professor of Global Health at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) and taught Epidemiology and Research Methodology at the University of Rwanda among others.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng - Minister of Health- Uganda

She has vast experience both as a manager and practicing medical personnel, which she accumulated while serving in various capacities as Medical Officer, Senior Medical Officer, Medical Officer Special Grade, Medical Superintendent, Consultant Pediatrician, Senior Consultant Pediatrician, Hospital Director and formerly as the Director General Health Services where she was responsible for coordinating technical functions for the delivery of Health services, a role she has fulfilled until her appointment as the Minister for Health.

Dr. Aceng holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine (MBChB), MMED (Pediatrics), Masters in Public Health and a Diploma in Health System Strengthening. She is a Pediatrician expert and is currently at the level of Senior Consultant Pediatrics. She is also a Public Health expert.
Dr Pakishe Aaron (PA) Motsoaledi - Minister of Health - South Africa

Prior to his first appointment as Minister of Health of the Republic of South Africa, Dr Motsoaledi had served as Chairperson of the Sekhukhune Advice Office from 1986 to 1994; as Chairperson of Hlahlolanang Health and Nutrition Education Project in 1989.
Qualified as a Medical Practitioner MBChB 1983 University of Natal and practised in various hospitals in KZN, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo till April 1994. First MEC for Health and Social Development in Limpopo Province from 1994-1997.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar - Minister of Health - Egypt
Health-related Carrier Background
Before his ministerial roles, Abdel Ghaffar held several academic positions at Ain Shams University. He headed the Department of Oral Medicine, Periodontics, Diagnostics, and Radiology at the Faculty of Dentistry. Additionally, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry and Vice President of Ain Shams University for Graduate Studies and Research.
Abdel Ghaffar’s international experience includes being a visiting professor at the College of Dentistry, University of Georgia (US), and the College of Dentistry, University of Texas, Houston (US). He also contributed to dental education and research as Secretary of the Dental Sector Committee at the Supreme Council of Universities and as a member of the Permanent Committee for Promotions at the same council.
His achievements include winning first place for the best research during the International Foundation for Dental Research (IADR) conference. He received the State Incentive Award in Medical Sciences and was recognized for distinguished research at Ain Shams University.
Abdel Ghaffar has authored 20 research papers in international journals and co-authored approximately 50 research papers in the field of dentistry and oral medicine specialization.
Academic Qualification
Abdel-Ghaar received his PhD in dental surgery from the University of Texas after graduating from Cairo University’s Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine. He received an honorary doctorate
from Hiroshima University in Japan for his significant contributions to the field of higher education and scientific research as well as an honorary fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
