Dr. Kibuta Ongwamuhana is highlighted as a leading lawyer in Tanzania by Chambers Global (2010) and described as incredibly progressive and probably the best tax lawyer in Tanzania (IFLR 2010), as a tax and corporate lawyer who has both academic and practical experience.
Dr. Kibuta specializes in tax dispute resolution, competition law, commercial arbitrations and trademark infringement disputes with the bulk of his work being on tax dispute resolution where he represents major companies in the mining, telecommunication, brewery and construction industries just to name a few.
As an academician Dr. Kibuta has taught at Universities in Tanzania, Australia and Papua New Guinea a variety of law courses, including taxation, company law, commercial law, mining law and international trade law; having begun his career at the Dar es Salaam University, then Adelaide University and finally the University of Papua New Guinea where he was appointed Principal Advising Officer and later Assistant Commissioner in the Internal Revenue Commission of Papua New Guinea where he worked for four years.
