How in the world does someone's academic degree even matter when they have successfully shown profoundly commendable leadership skills over the whole nation and for a considerable number of years!??? Why is almost everyone seems to try to exalt mere papers over actual field work!???

Ni ruhusu niwape hekima kiasi kwani hekima ni uhuru kama vile motto ya chuo kikuu cha Dar. Naomba nipokelewe kwanza, kwani hii ndio hoja yangu ya kwanza hapa. nitatumia lugha ya kingereza. A little research on the history of early high education in East Africa gives us a good answer.
At independence, our three countries Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya together formed the first university named the University of East Africa. This constituted of the three colleges namely Makerere College, Royal College Nairobi and Dar es Salaam College.
These colleges of East Africa were either specialized or had been assigned certain areas before they split up in early 1970s.For example, Makerere College was assigned three areas in which it specialized, namely: education, forestry and medicine; Royal College Nairobi: engineering, architecture, surveying and photo-grammetry, land economics and building economics; and Dar es Salaam College: law and social sciences.
Therefore, students from the three countries were admitted to these colleges depending on their preferred majors. That’s why the early professionals in the named courses schooled in the various countries. Notably, Makerere which was has been established in 1922 had better facilities than the other two and that’s why the likes of Nyerere, Mkapa, Kibaki schooled there. It’s until 1970 that the university split giving birth to the universities you are now comparing.
If you keenly look at the prominent foreign scholars you’ve highlighted out, e.g Willy Mutunga, he did law while Museveni did political science from University of Dar. Safe to say best lawyers of those times came from Dar, best engineers came for UON while best doctors came from Makerere.

The question is, how many Nobel Peace prizes has UDSM? How many renown writers has UDSM? What successful researches have been done at UDSM? How many CEOs of companies valued over $1 billion has UDSM produced? Otherwise filling poverty stricken countries with dictators is no achievement.
