Musa Bogere and Edward Katumba being guarded by Police officer Siraje Kizito at Wandegeya Police Station

Two held over dog meat
By Eddie Ssejjoba

The Police in Wandegeya on Saturday arrested two men from Kalerwe found slaughtering a dog which the Police suspected they planned to sell as goat's meat.

Hundreds of angry residents jammed Wandegeya Police station to catch a glimpse of the men, Musa Boogere and Edward Katumba of Kinnubbi zone, who had been caught with the dog carcass.

The bare-chested, blood-stained men had already cut off the tail, legs and head of the canine.

The officer in charge of Wandegeya Police station, Inspector Bernard Otim, said they had received a tip in the morning that the two men were killing a dog to turn it into meat for sale as muchomo (roasted meat).

"We immediately deployed our men who arrested the suspects as they were still slaughtering the dog," he said.

Otim said the suspects would be charged with injuring an animal, in violation of Section 334 of the Penal Code Act, and were likely to be produced in court on Monday or Tuesday after the Resident State Attorney had sanctioned the file.

He said it was not the first time they had received complaints that the suspects were involved in selling dog meat.

"We are investigating information that the suspects own a butchery in one of the city suburbs where they sell such meat and use a shrine to disguise as traditional healers who slaughter animals for sacrifice," he said.

Boogere, when paraded before journalists, denied they planned to sell the meat. He said he was a traditional healer who had killed the animal for sacrifice.

"This is my home dog which I have been rearing. I killed it on demand of my spirits who directed me to offer its body parts to them," he said.

He said his accomplice, Edward Katumba, had come for consultation when the Police arrested them.

"Wacha jamaa alipe. Huwezi kula kwa hoteli bila kulipa!"

With Kenyans feeling the squeeze of the tough economic times, a man in Kondele, Kisumu, thought he had used deceit to enjoy free services only to be accosted by a woman demanding payment. However, two days later, on Wednesday, she spotted the runaway man, prompting her to hold on to him and demand her dues.At one point, the man, who looked dazed, nearly escaped, but the determined woman would not let go.

In the process the mans shirt was torn, embarrassing him further.

Turning her head at an angle that ensured our photographer could not capture her face, the woman decided to take the defaulter to the nearby Kondele Police Station, after he refused to budge.

Surprisingly, thrilled passersby, mostly men, cheered her on as motorists gave way for the pair to cross the road to the police station.
"Wacha jamaa alipe. Huwezi kula kwa hoteli bila kulipa," shouted one of the curious onlookers. (Let the man pay. You cannot eat in a hotel and decline to pay.)

Bemused police officers watched as the man was frog marched to the station.
"Please, let us settle this matter amicably," he begged. But the woman could have none of it, insisting she had to be paid first.

Husband snatcher faces womens wrath

A woman accused of snatching husbands was on Friday stripped naked and frogmarched to the chiefs camp in Meru town.

The woman from Runogone village in Imenti North District had attracted the rage of her age mates, who accuse her of shaming them by sleeping with their husbands, young men and farmhands.

In a recent dramatic incident that triggered the womens anger, the accused, who had been chased from her matrimonial home because of her alleged excesses, was caught sleeping with a young man.

She was frogmarched and whipped by men, who later demanded her age mates, locally known as Ncurubi, punish her for her wayward behaviour.

About 300 women invaded the culprits house, forced her out, stripped her naked and paraded her in the open.

The intervention of the local chief saved her from further punishment.

Kibunango,

Young boy sodomised in Nairobi

NAIROBI, August 9 - A five-year old boy is being treated at the Nairobi Womens Hospital after he was sodomised by a man in the citys Sinai Estate on Wednesday.

The minor was reportedly ambushed by a man he says is known to him, as the boy relieved himself in a thicket near their home.

His mother was reportedly away when the incident occurred at around 10 am, the single mother narrated to Capital News.

Almost weeping while recounting the story, the mother, who is a casual worker, said that she had left home early on the fateful day to try and secure a day job to get money that would help her fend for her family.

She had left the school going boy in the custody of a neighbour, who called the mother after realising that the youngster was bleeding profusely from his back-side.

I was not at home since I leave my home every morning at 6am.I leave the boy with a neighbour who looks after him till I come back in the evening, said the disturbed mother.

He was, according to the mother, rushed to a nearby dispensary by neighbours, where he was cleaned up before being referred to the Nairobi Womens Hospital.

An official at the Hospitals Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC), Phyllis Wangechi, said that upon examination the boy was diagnosed with rectal prolapse. He was then operated on, and at the time Capital News visited the hospital, was in good shape.

Wangechi said the minor arrived at the hospital in very bad shape at around 11am on Thursday, and was almost immediately operated on to restore his relocated rectum.

He went for an operation so that his rectum could be restored because when he came in, his rectum had come out from behind, said the official.

Rectal prolapse is a condition often caused by the weakening of the ligaments and muscles that hold the rectum in place.

It is often diagnosed in people whose anal sphincter is weak.

The condition also is often associated with advanced age, long term constipation, long term diarrhoea, long term straining during defecation, pregnancy and stresses of childbirth, previous surgery, cystic fibrosis, and sphincter paralysis.

She said the boy and could be discharged soon if his condition remains steady.
