try telling this to a Bukhusu man in Kakamega or Shinyalu...bila shaka its insanity...Ugali is not even as nutritious as they seem to believe...anyway, I think they just see it as a food that will quench their hunger for the longest time possible...being a relatively low-earning country, we dont have the pleasure of eating all the time so they think mchele itaisha kwa tumbo in the middle of the night...also, many of these ppl have large families...cooking mchele in a family of 8 kids would be a travesty! downright absurd! atleast thats what they seem to think.I dont know if it is possible, but Kenyans need to change their attitude regarding ugali wa mahindi.
Most Kenyans believe that maize ugali is the most energetic food, that would keep one satiated for long. But that is a myth!
Other starchy foods are just as good.
Some of my relatives at home would not even contemplate the idea of going to bed at night without eating ugali at least once a day. They say it is tantamount eating nothing at all, and I regard that as insanity.
