SVEN AND THE SIMBA STORIES
Former Zambia National Team Coach Sven Vandenbroeck has exposed Simba SC badly in a storm of spiteful spats with employers, that could have led to him being fired from the job.
The young Belgian coach has had some bitter words towards the Simba SC management accusing them of underhand dealing in their quest to win matches.
The popular and moneyed Tanzanian side are a two days away from smarting Zimbabwean champions FC Platinum via 4nil drubbing and qualifying to the next round on 4-1 aggregate.
It is of note, the Zimbabwean champions played that match under protest. As the claim unfair treatment regarding the Covid-19 testing of their entourage. Zimbabwean media and that of social media is awash with reports that the Covid-19 testing targeted star players from Zimbabwean side so as to get them out of play.
And unfortunately, the timing for Plasto as the Zimbabwean champions are affectionately called by their fans in Zvishavane town in the midlands province of Zimbabwe, had only two hours before the match to seek a second opinion regarding the tests. Worse, they were told Dar es laam has only got one testing centre. Which was overwhelmed.
CAF has to watch this as it happening under their watch. Reports say Nigeria side encountered a similar situation but the outsmarted their hosts. Seemingly, they had inside details of the shenanigans in Tanzania.
These accusations as they might appear seems to getting traction and it will important for CAF to get to the bottom of it. This abuse of the deadly pandemic as route to success is both unsportsmanlike and barbaric at best. Issuing some fake medical results is traumatizing nature.
But Sven had this spat to add impetus to the protest FC Platinum are on, “We could do without this noise about tampering with Covid-19 results of opponents. It is so unnecessary and taints the name of this very big club because these players work so hard to perform.
“As Simba SC we are good enough to win games without using COVID-19. The public outcry about this, makes even the wins very hollow. That is not the spirit of FIFA fair play. We surely can do better and as a club let us work to improve our football,” he told the Simba hierarchy, just moments after the embarrassing 4-0 win over a very frustrated FC Platinum on Wednesday.
This could have the led to him being shown the door
The response the Simba Chiefs was as arrogant as they come: “We know what we are doing and we are aware who won us qualification to group stages. It was certainly not you or your efforts, so stop telling us Yanga (Young Africans) stories here.
“We are Simba (lion). We hunt to kill and prey and we have the money to do all our projects”. These words are being attributed to iron lady at Simba SC, theCEO Barbra Gonzalez.
We await to see the reaction of CAF in the spate of these accusations that fly high in the face football and can easily spoil the name of the game.
Asante Kotoko of Ghana had similar complaints in Sudan regarding Covid-19 testing issues. And the Ghanaian giants simply packed their bags and left with kicking the ball.
