Jamani wakati Mbeki anapiga siasa kuchaguliwa ANC-na hatimaye kushindwa, SA hakuna umeme wa kutosha- jana karibu nchi nzima kulikuwa na blackout! Ijulikane kuwa SA exports umeme to Namibya, Botswana, Zimbabwe hadi Zambia.

What is is wrong? South African government could not foresee this in advance?

Yet this is largest economy in Africa and 20th in the world!

Mzee such a blackout si mara ya kwanza kutokea duniani at least in the so called developed world, maana in 2003 Marekani, Canada na Italy faced the same and was even more worse. Kwa wenzetu mostly huwa inakuwa ni natural disasters kama chanzo, wakati hapa kwetu uzembe, sabotages, wizi, ufisadi ndio huwa vinatupelekea kwenye continuous blackouts!!!!!!!

"The Northeast Blackout of 2003 was a massive power outage that occurred throughout parts of the Northeastern and Midwestern United States, and Ontario, Canada on Thursday, August 14, 2003. Although not affecting as many people as the later 2003 Italy blackout, it was the largest blackout in North American history. It affected an estimated 10 million people in the province of Ontario (about one-third of the population of Canada) and 40 million people in eight U.S. states (about one-seventh of the population of the U.S.). Outage-related financial losses were estimated at $6 billion USD ($6 billion CDN)."

Kwa hiyo ndugu mzalendohalisi unataka kusema hiyo blackout ni failure ya Mbeki? Na ndio maana hakuchaguliwa tena???

Nyalamba,

Kuna kukosa umakini serikali ya Mbeki over energy policy.. leo wamekuwa na cabinet emergency meeting (fire brigade!!!) over hii issue na jana alikutana na ESKOM. Kuna uwezekano SA kukawa power rationing!

The point is not much investment ktk hii sektor has been done na matumizi ya umeme yaneongezeka sana! Na walishauriwa na ESKOM wakaingiza siasa!

Ndo maana I question umakini wa Mbeki over his policy of energy!

SA tourists trapped in cable car
More than 30 people in South Africa were trapped in a cable car in mid-air for more than three hours near the top of Table Mountain after a power cut.

Hundreds of others were stranded at a cafe on Cape Town's famous landmark having gone up on a "sunset special".

The cable car is normally a five-minute journey, while it takes at least two hours to climb to the summit.

Power cuts have swept the country over the past week, and the cabinet is meeting to discuss the crisis.

Power company Eskom is planning to limit its supply to neighbouring countries as it battles shortages.

A spokesperson for Table Mountain Aerial Cableway told South Africa's Cape Times newspaper that a power cut at about 2000 local time (1800 GMT) had caused two cars to jump out of alignment.

Passengers in a lower car were rescued - the first such emergency operation since it began operating almost 80 years ago.

But the tourists near the top of the mountain were left stranded until the problem was fixed at about 2320.

Several hundred tourists were stuck at the top of the mountain waiting for the cable car to start working again.
