Netters & Bloggers,
It is with great sadness that I bring to you the news that our friend, Walter Mazula, and his girlfriend, Bonita Nkya, were shot to death in Detroit, Michigan yesterday. Their bodies also got burnt when the car they were driving was set ablaze by the perpertrators of this criminal act. Walter and Bonita met their untimely and violent death in the East side of Detroit. No suspects have been apprehended to date and the Detroit police has got no leads yet.

The news of these deaths has hit some of us especially hard since we have known the victims for some time. I remember them well from the time my family & I lived in the Detroit area. And I can't begin to describe just how shocked I'm after learning of this news this afternoon. I would ask that each and everyone of us keep the Mazula & Nkya families in your prayers as they're trying to sort out why this tragedy happened in the first place.
In mourning,

TWO TANZANIANS SLAIN IN DETROIT

From Muhidin Issa Michuzi in New York

Two Tanzanians were shot dead over the weekend by unknown assailants in Detroit, Michigan, and so far no motive of the murder has been established nor suspects apprehended.

Tanzania's Ambassador to Washington, Mr Andrew Mhando Daraja, confirming the reports here last night named the deceased as the late Walter Mazula and Vonetha Nkya.

Mr Daraja said the two met their violent deaths in the East side of Detroit late Saturday afternoon.

"We have contacted the Detroit police and they have promised to give us a full report on the shooting in two days time.

"What I can tell you at the moment is that the bodies have been released to the family and preparations to fly them home are in top gear", said the envoy.

He added that an official from Tanzania's embassy in Washington, Mr Edward Sokoine, has been dispatched to Detroit to offer any assistance needed.

Reports from Detroit have it that the Police department there has offered a 4,000 US Dollar reward to whoever will give information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

It is suspected that the cold-blooded slaying of the two who are said to have been close friends was pre-arranged. Their bodies were found at two different places.

The reports say that the late Walter was shot five times in the neck and head before his body was thrown at the road side.

It is reported that Vonetha was shot twice in the head and later on the car in which she and Walter were driving was torched, burning her body beyond recognition.

The news of these deaths has hit the Tanzanian community in the US especially hard and most of them expressed profound shock and could not comprehend why it has happened.

They told the Daily News that the deceased were some of the most endearing persons who ran a peaceful life both in the US and back home.

The late Walter who died at the age of 28 had graduated from the Walsh College in Troy, Michigan, according to family sources.

Vonetha was a finalist at the same college and was to graduate in December this year. She was 27.

Their bodies are expected to be flown to Dar es salaam for burial either on Sunday or Monday, depending on the availability of flights.

This is the latest news: Nimetoka huko msibani...

d. Wakati wa mchana, kama hutaweza kupata update hapa, nitawapa update kupitia blog yangu: http://www.blog.co.tz/mapambazuko (for the latest news)

Anti-Tanzanian incident kivipi? Kwani mko wengi kiasi hicho.....huko Detroit?

Nyani, kuna Watanzania wengi sana detroit.... you won't believe it.. we are a very quite community.. compared to some others in US (if you know what I mean...)
