Business leaders have described power, roads, corruption, water, level of tax and finance as the leading impediments to investing in the country, according to a new business perceptions report.

The report, ‘Business leader perceptions of the investment climate in Tanzania – 2011' highlights that problems including a lack of available water, usually viewed as a common resource, joins the list of creating barriers to business, and becoming a greater priority for the business leaders too.

In their responses, the Business leaders urge government structures to improve its investment climate in order to attract more investors .

The Minister for Finance and Economic Affairs, Dr William Mgimwa said that some of the things the report raises have been given particular focus by the 2012/2013 fiscal budget currently being debate in Parliament.

It is important to remove those structural and non structural bottlenecks," he said.

He said the government has set 4.5trn/- as capital investments to stimulate energy, road and water infrastructure.

In the report, business leaders were asked about enabling environment factors that are important to their business, factors that make it difficult to do business, non-tariff barriers that are relevant to their business, non-tariff barriers that cause problems for their business and their perception of whether and, if so, how, government is addressing each factor.
