Three Engineers

There are three engineers in a car; an electrical engineer, a
chemical engineer and a Microsoft engineer. Suddenly the car just
stops by the side of the road, and the three engineers look at each
other wondering what could be wrong.

The electrical engineer suggests stripping down the electronics of
the car and trying to trace where a fault might have occurred. The
chemical engineer, not knowing much about cars, suggests that maybe
the fuel is becoming emulsified and getting blocked somewhere.

Then, the Microsoft engineer, not knowing much about anything, comes
up with a suggestion, 'Why don't we close all the windows, get out,
get back in, open the windows again, and maybe it'll work !?'

This is very old, but I feel the need to make a comment...

Once in my academic life, I started as an electrical engineering student...
I grew a little bit disillusion on the practicality of things. Yes I love theories; I got so turned on with Maxwell equations. In fact, I had tears in my eyes (goosebumps) when the professor demonstrated how Maxwell mathematical solution lead to the realization that magnetism and electricity are actual of the same phenomenon, leading to the first unification of 2 of the fundamental forces! My introduction to quantum mechanics and special theory of relativity was such a turn on for me (these courses are required in USA Elect. Engineering curriculum). I was so excited by quantum mechanics to the point that my professor wanted me to do just pure physics...But one thing was missing...I was still not able to build things...just theory. My be the program was missing something; needed emphasis on practical application...don't know.

But then I saw a movie called alive (based on a true story about a plan crash in Chile and how the few were able to stay ALIVE). One of the survival was an electrical engineering student. But the guy could not repair the broken communication radio. So they could not call for help...they where stranded in the mountains for 72 days!!!

Draw your own conclusion...But my point is ... Get theories, but you must also be able to build things. As an IT and a network engineer of almost 20 years, I have designed Large scale and advanced IP networks, build a radio, repaired a TV, and modified a sport-car to output more than 400 HP! ...An Engineer is a state of mind.

Actually, the Microsoft engineer said he was misunderstood by the other fellows. What he said was to close the window program on the laptop, get an ODBII cable and connect the laptop to the car's engine control module in order to check the error logs!
