In my opinion. Second Life is the best thing ever happenned in a virtual and online World. Not even hi5, myspace, or facebook can match up its hype.

Below, is a better definition, according to www.secondlife.com:

Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely created by its Residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by millions of Residents from around the globe.

  • From the moment you enter the World you'll discover a vast digital continent, teeming with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity. Once you've explored a bit, perhaps you'll find a perfect parcel of land to build your house or business.
  • You'll also be surrounded by the Creations of your fellow Residents. Because Residents retain the rights to their digital creations, they can buy, sell and trade with other Residents.
  • The Marketplace currently supports millions of US dollars in monthly transactions. This commerce is handled with the in-world unit-of-trade, the Linden dollar, which can be converted to US dollars at several thriving online Linden Dollar exchanges.

Hongera QuickMover kwa kuingia "virtual world"!

Halafu pia je umenunua investiments yoyote ile huko maana huko ni alternative to real life ingawa unahitaji virtual family?

Richard,

Hopefully, next week nitaanza kuijenga.

Washikaji ninao kama watatu hivi. Ila kuna binti mmoja ananikuna kweli. Anaitwa Manka kanto. Kila nikimwona huwa najaribu kumuongelesha....lakini bado ananiringia:)

Bado sijaanza kutengeneza investment portfolio.

Vipi wewe huko huko tayari nini?

Kuna baadhi ya vyuo vinaitumia 'Second Life' kuendesha lectures. Wanafunzi wanatakiwa kuregister na kwenda kuhudhuria classes just like in a real world.

The fun part of it ni pale mnapoenda kwenye party au club. It's so much fun kuona jinsi virtual people wanavyojirusha utafikiri wako kwenye Real World. The other day, nilikuwa kwenye reggae consent.....yan ilikuwa bab'kubwa!!!!

The craziest part ni pale unapoweza kudesign umbo lako however you like. In fact, inasemekana 'Second Life' inawapa extremely disable, na watu waliokata tamaa na maisha, another reason to live. Kwa sababu, kila mtu mle ana option ya kuitengeza body yake however he/she likes. So you can imagine!!

Paralysed man takes a walk in virtual world

TOKYO

A paralysed man using only his brain waves has been able to manipulate a virtual Internet character, Japanese researchers said Monday, calling it a world first.

A 41-year-old paralysed man uses brain waves to control his character in 'Second Life'.

The 41-year-old patient used his imagination to make his character take a walk and chat to another virtual person on the popular Second Life website.

The patient, who has suffered paralysis for more than 30 years, can barely bend his fingers due to a progressive muscle disease so cannot use a mouse or keyboard in the traditional way.

In the experiment, he wore headgear with three electrodes monitoring brain waves related to his hands and legs. Even though he cannot move his legs, he imagined that his character was walking.

He was then able to have a conversation with the other character using an attached microphone, said the researchers at Japan's Keio University.

It is the first time a paralysis patient has succeeded in meeting a person and having a conversation in an Internet virtual world, they added.

Researchers are now studying a system that would let patients create text messages by mentally selecting certain letters, said Junichi Ushiba, associate professor at the biosciences and informatics department of Keio Universty's Faculty of Science and Technology.

"In the near future, they would be able to stroll through Second Life shopping malls with their brain waves... and click to make a purchase," Ushiba said.

Second Life is an increasingly popular virtual world in which people -- and animals -- are represented by animated avatars and do everything from social activities to shopping.

Ushiba says Second Life could motivate patients with severe paralysis, who are often too depressed to undergo rehabilitation.
