The Citizen reported on the illegal hunting tactics used by GMS (Green Miles Safari) a UAE company registered to hunt in Selous National Park. The allegations included allowing children younger than 18yrs, hunting by the automatic weapons fitted with silencers, hunting animals and birds not listed in their licence and so forth....The licence was revoked with our Honorable Nyarandu warning the government to lose up to USD 10K back in 2014 of which is approximately TZS 21.8B currently.
Banned hunting firm threatens court action
In recent years, the wildlife sector in the world has been facing an increase in poaching and rapid decline of species especially those categorized as endangered species. Tanzania’s wildlife also is facing the same problem of poaching where animals like rhino, elephant, and leopards are tremendously decreasing in population at an alarming rate.
In this case will reflect the unsustainable hunting practices conducted by some licensed firms. The practices the show the failure path of wildlife conservation, poor integration of wildlife management in Tanzanian National Parks and game reserves.
The Company portrays itself as a Green Mile Safari Co. Ltd. meaning that it is operating its activities by complying with the green environment management, which is to maintain sustainable environmental management. In contrary, the clip video shows and reflects the situation of how some of the licensed hunters (firms) in Tanzania violate rules and regulations not only the national laws but the international ones relating to protection of the wildlife stewardship and their ecosystems.
According to Tanzanian hunting legislation, Green Miles Safaris Ltd violated legislation and regulations governing wildlife conservation (Wildlife Conservation Act of 2009 and the Wildlife Conservation (Tourist Hunting) Regulations of 2010) including;
After outrage among Tanzanians and internationally, Green Mile Safari – based in the United Arab Emirates - was kicked out the country.
But now, under suspicious circumstances, the exact same company has returned and been given a huge amount of conservation land in Tanzania. And within weeks, they might again be able to reproduce some of the “highlights” of their video.

- breaching article 19 (1) (2) of the law on hunting safaris, which restricts hunting on animals that are not allowed in hunting, including birds and hyenas.
- as well as allowing hunters below ages 18 on hunting activities, breaking article 43 (2) (a) of that legislation.
- hunt young animals, breaching article 56 (1).
After outrage among Tanzanians and internationally, Green Mile Safari – based in the United Arab Emirates - was kicked out the country.

My Take:
- Why are they back in our country with all they have done and the world have seen?
- Did my lovely country lose a case and pay USD 10K if at all the licence was revoked?
- No licence was revoked rather they were given sometime for the World to leak and heal the wounds?
