I have come to a conclusion that the real cost of corruption in Tanzania is the unchecked increase in the cost of living. It is the corruption that has led to the unrealistic increase of prices of goods and services. Would you agree?

It is true Mwanakijiji... just for you information, you can validate this one easily kwenye huduma za afya!!! because most of the factors are constant except: overheads (ambapo kuna direct operational costs, mishahara - angalia allowances and ghost workers) and commodities costs (which in fact its estimated to be about 40% wastes - expiries, spoilt or stolen) and all due to accountability problem, which is the first born of corruption!!!

I was talking to someone earlier today and we tried to compare the cost of living between here in the US and TZ and he was amazed.. I told him.. a nice apartment rented here will cost between 600 and 900 and a luxury apartment (town houses etc) would be between 1000 and 1200; I told him a gallon of Petrol is about 2.60USD (about .60cents per litter) while foodstuff per week cost about 120USD.

I agree,Corruption on one hand raises the cost for providing the goods and or services where as on the other hand inapunguza pato la serikali,na hivyo inakuwa kama merry go round, serikali ikikosa mapato inajipandishia zake kodi tu ambayo in turn ofcourse wafanyabiashara wanapandisha tena bei za bidhaa juu.

.......it may have many faces but I count UNDERDEVELOPMENT in Tanzania as the real cost of corruption.

Yes I do, cost of living is skyrocketing daily, yet people are silent and relaxing! This shows they have a place where they do get money!

Hence the whole society is living the dishonesty life(very few people are honesty)..in other words we are living in a criminalised society, where criminal is actually a compliment so called Bongo!

Mwalimu.. underdevelopment huwezi kuionesha Tanzania... It is one of the hardest argument to make that we are underdeveloped!

curruption fuels inflation, reduce economic growth and GDP per capital.

unapotoa rushwa kupata tenda lazima upate excess profit au hiyo hela uliyotoa hongo lazima uifidie somewhere (ile profit yako au usifanye kazi vizuri and vise versa).

has anyone here took into account bribery as part of the cost of doing business? For example if you are going to get certain service (like at a Police station) have you ever budgeted "kitu kidogo"... kwa maafisa wa Polisi?

Wanaewezaje kuishi?

Vipi mkuu MTM upo Bongo mkuu?

Lazime uwe mwizi tu)

Shalom.. tuchukulie mtu ambaye hana gari lake binafsi na anatumia public transportation to move around..

Mkuu Shalom,

How people do survive?

Mie natazama corruption km one of the cause lakini zipo nyingine pia zinasababisha:

1. Hatuzalishi kuanzia chakula, mavazi, na products nyingine hadi services tunaagiza. Matokeo yake ni kuhangaika kulipa kwa foreign currency na in the end pesa yetu inakosa tests kwahiyo ili ununue kwa pesa ya Tanzania inabidi ulipe pesa nyingi.

Yako mengi, jamani nchi yetu mh!!!!

as a society we have accepted corruption as part of our lives; therefore we have found ways to function within the corrupt system. Not only function but also prosper within it!

Yes you have actually reminded me, the theories of Survival of the fittest one unknown author says this

"The survival of the fittest is the ageless law of nature, but the fittest are rarely the strong. The fittest are those endowed with the qualifications for adaptation, the ability to accept the inevitable and conform to the unavoidable, to harmonize with existing or changing conditions"

We have accepted that corruption is unavoidable, we believe everyone does it, to adapt with the situation we find ourselves so unusual and unrealistic to refrain from it; lest your fellow citizens laugh at you!
