The New Culture – does a woman need to solicit for a marriage? Effects of globalization in Present Tanzania
Globalization has made Tanzania culture to be compromised in many ways. I am trying to bring up this issue of ‘Unyago'; I am not talking about female genital mutilation but rather African tradition to help many girls out there to come into terms with their puberty age with sense of maturity in making important decisions such as marriage decision.
I know nowadays, it is very rare for many urban areas to see such a practice. Many girls have decided to seek something to feel this vacuum by implementing something from western culture such as watching pornographic movies to mention a few.
I was puzzled to learn that ‘a mature‘girl come forward in public full of guts, to ask whether, it is right to ‘bribe' his boyfriend by committing unnatural act so that to solicit for a marriage; it is true that nature does not allow a vacuum.
My question: is it necessary for Tanzanian parents to reintroduce our traditional values back such as ‘Unyago' in order to tackle this alarming problem?
