Kama kuna kitu cha wazi ambacho ni funzo kubwa kwetu Watanzania katika miaka minne hii ya Awamu ya Tano na "Utawala" (maksudi kabisa badala ya kutumia uongozi) wa Magufuli ni UTHUBUTU!

Uthubutu, ni uwezo wa kufanya mambo bila kuwa na kigugumizi au kujishuku. Ni kufanya mambo, kusimamia unaloliamini bila kujali au bila woga. Sasa kwa Magufuli ambaye tulijua akiwa waziri alikuwa ni mchapakazi mpaka kuitwa bulldozer, ilimaanisha alifanya mambo jinsi alivyoona ni sawa kwa nafasi yake na sasa kwa kupata Urais n kuwa Rais wa Jamhuri, basi Ari, Kasi na Nguvu zake za kuwa Bulldozer na uthubutu zimeongezeka maradufu.

Uthubutu si lazima tuutazame kwa matokeo chanya pekee, hata matokeo hasi yanaweza kutokea kutokana na mtu kuwa na uthubutu, kudhamiria na kufanya lile alilokusidia.

Rais Magufuli ametusaidia sana kutuonyesha kwa vitendo, na si semi, kauli au porojo kuwa kwenye nia pana njia.

Naam, kuna maamuzi mengi yaliyotokana na Uthubutu huu yameleta maswali mengi na hata matokeo ya "uthubutu" kuonekana kama hatua ambazo zilikosa weledi, busara, uhakika au hata hekima. Lakini cha msingi kwa andiko langu hili si kukosoa au kusifia mafanikio au kushindwa kwa maamuzi aliyoyafanya, la hasha... naangalia silika ya kibinadamu ya kuwa na uthubutu, Daring!

Nakumbuka miaka 10 ya Rais Kikwete, uongozi au utawala wake ulionekana umepwaya kwa kukosa Uthubuu wa ukali na kusimamia mambo yafanyike, bila kujali matokeo. Nakumbuka mgombea wa Urais 2015 Bwana Lowassa alinukuliwa mara kadhaa akisema Tanzania inahitaji mtu mwenye kufanya maamuzi magumu, na Watanzania ule u-soft soft wa awamu ya nne, ulitufanya tutake kupata mtu "Dikteta" kauli na nadharia ambazo kwa umoja wa Kitaifa bila hata chembe ya tofauti za kisiasa ai itikadi, ilikuwa ni "natural" kukubali uhitaji wa kuwa na Rais Mkali, Dikteta!

Magufuli kathibitisha katika uanadamu kuwa Uthubutu si jambo la kusadikika, bali li jambo la kweli, lina uhai na kila mtu akikusudia na kujiamini, anaweza kuwa na Uthubutu!

Nikiiangalia Tanzania ilipo leo hii, miaka 58 tangu tupate Uhuru ambapo bado tuko kwenye hatua za mwanzo za kujaribu kupiga vita Ujinga, Umasikini, Maradhi, Unyonge na Utegemezi (UUMUU)pamoja na kutamka kwa vinywa vyetu mahitaji ya maendeleo ya taifa kuwa ni Watu, Ardhi, Siasa Safi na Uongozi Bora, sifa, hulka na wajihi wa kuwa na Uthubutu bado ni mchanga sana na ndio chimbuko la kukosa kujiamini, kuwa wanyonge na waoga kufanya maamuzi magumu.

Kuna dhana na falsafa inayosema fanya jambo, lisipozaa matunda chanya au uliyotegemea-matokeo hasi yanakupa fursa kurudia mchakato na kujifunza pale ulipokosea na kurudia jambo kwa ubora na umakini zaidi. Cha msingi ni kujiamini na kuwa na uthububu wa kufanya mambo.

Sasa kwa Tanzania yetu ya leo "Ya Magufuli" ya "MATAGA" na "CCM Mpya" utegemezi wa mwenye kujiamini na mwenye kuthubutu kumebakia kuegemea na kumtegemea mtu mmoja, Rais Magufuli. Wengine wote wamekaa kando wakishangilia na kusifia lakini hawana Uthubutu wa kwao wa kujitegemea na kwa nafsi zao bila kutegemea na kuzengea Uthubutu wa magufuli ambao sasa umeambatana na mamlaka na dhama kubwa kama Rais wa nchi.

Tumeshuhudia watendaji wa Serikali na Wanasiasa ambao wana majukumu ya kuongoza nchi, wakigeuka kuwa Wanyapara, wasiojiamini, wakitegemea sana UDola wa Kimamlaka na zaidi turufu yao kubwa ni kusema "maagizo kutoka juu" wakimaanisha ni maelekezo na maagizo ya Magufuli, wakikimbilia kuutegemea Uthubutu wa Magufuli kama ngao na nguzo.

Nasi wananchi ambao hatuna mamlaka au dhamana ya kiuongozi au madaraka, nasi tumekaa kando kwa unyonge au kuachia kila kitu kifanywe na kuamini na kutegemea "ah Magufuli ni kiboko".

Leo haki ya mwananchi inakanyagwa na kupuuzwa, tunakosa Uthubutu wa kudai haki na kusimama imara kukataa kuburuzwa. Ndio kuna hofu na mazingira ya kutishiana ambayo yanatufanya kukosa kujiamini, lakini kwa nini hatumtazami Magufuli yule aliyekuwa Waziri ambaye alisimama na kupata alichotaka na kudhamiria mpaka tukamsifia kwa ujenzi wa miundo mbinu Tanzania?

Nimesema awali, Uthubutu si lazima uzae matoke chanya (ambayo yanaweza kuwa ni mtazamo wa mtu, kikundi au wa aina moja au nyingine) au matendo yanayotikana na Uthubutu yapokelewe kwa mikono miwili na kila mtu. Lakini laiti kama kila mmoja wetu kwa miaka 58 tangu tupate Uhuru wetu tungekuwa na utashi, uimara, ujeuri, kujiamini na uthubutu hata kwa asilimia 50% a uthubutu wa Magufuli, si ajabu Tanzania ingekuwa mbali sana kwenye maendeleo yake ya uchumi, kupanuka na kukomaa kwa haki za watu na yote ambayo tunanung'unikia leo, si ajabu yasingekuwa manung'uniko au kero za kutukosesha raha.

Nikiangalia na kupima Uthubutu wa Magufuli, kuna mengi kafanya (kutenda si lazima kuwe ni sifa ya kufanikiwa jambo) kwa kuamua. Ama ni kutoa maagizo, kuamrisha na kusimamia kikafanyika bila kujali matokeo (consequences or final result) au kuangalia hisia za watu. Mfano, aliazimia kupanuliwa kwa barabara, kukafanyika ubomoaji ili kupisha upanuzi wa barabara hata njia ya reli ya SGR. Hakusubiri majadiliano ingawa yawezekana kukawa na gharama kubwa kwa maamuzi hayo hasa pale penye malalamiko ya fidia.

Akaamua kununua ndege kwa fedha taslimu, zimenunuliwa ndege 5 kwa mkupuo tena kwa fedha taslimu bila kuwa na ukiritimba ambao Serikali na ATCL walifanya kwa miaka 20 kabla ya Magufuli kuboresha au kuwezesha Shirika la ndege kuwa na ndege za kutosha (wengi mtakumbuka ndege za Mattaka). Akasitisha mazoea ya kusafirisafiri ya viongozi na watendaji wa Serikali bila kujali kama kulikuwa na umuhimu wa uwepo na uwakilishi wetu au la, lakini amri yake ilisikilizwa kwa kuwa alisema atatumbua. Leo tumeona Chato inajengwa kwa kasi kubwa; iwe ni maagizo, amri au watu "kujituma" kuhakikisha Chato inakuwa na hadhi kubwa na sasa inageuka kuwa kivutio cha biashara na utalii. Akasema kufanyike uhakiki wa vyeti, wa wafanyakazi wa Serikali, nayo yakatimia. Akasema lazima kila mtu apate stakabadhi akinunua bidhaa ili Serikali ipate mapato... leo kila mtu anahangaika kuwa na stakabadhi! Akasema lazima tuhamie Dodoma, iwe kumekamilika au la, watu wakahamia Dodoma, wengine ofisi ziko kwenye vibanda na wanakaa vyumba vya kupanga.. lakini Serikali imehamia Dodoma.

Sasa najiuliza, sisi kilitushinda nini miaka yote kufanya maamuzi kama haya?ni kigugumizi gani kilitushika kwa muda mrefu kufanya mambo na kuwa na uthubutu, bila kuwa na woga au kujiumauma? kwa nini tuliamini hatuna uwezo wa kufanya mambo kwa hiari lakini tunafanya sasa kwa kuamrishwa na ni sawa na kwamaba tunachapwa mijeledi, tunazinduka na kufanya?

Leo nina uhakika Magufuli akisema tunarasimisha Katiba ya Wananchi iliyotokana na Rasimu ya Warioba, litafanyika bila kupingwa au miguno. Sheria kadhaa na miswaada imepelekwa bungeni na "Chama tawala" ama kwa woga, unafiki au labda ukweli halisi kimepigia kura na kupitisha kila kilichopelekwa na Serikali ya awamu ya tano. Rais Magufuli leo akisema ni marufuku kuzuia mikutano ya kisiasa ya vyama vya siasa, hakuna atakayebisha.

Sasa ni rahisi kusema yeye ana mamlaka makubwa na anatumia cheo chake, lakini ukweli unabakia kuwa anayafanya kutokana na Uthubutu, daring.. hata kama mara nyingine ni kiholela (reckless) au ni kishari (mercilessly), but he gets shit done regardless.

Je sisi wote tungeanza kujiamini na kuanza kuwa na uthubutu bila woga kufanya mambo tunayoamini ni haki yetu kikatiba, ni wajibu wetu kusimama kuyapigania. Iwe ni nyumbani, makazini, kwenye masuala ya kijamii, kisiasa, kiuchumi, kiuzalishaji na kila jambo, uwe ni mfanyakazi, mwajiri, mfanyabiashara, mwanasiasa.. tukiwa wote na uthubutu, na tukafanya maamuzi kwa umakini lakini tukisimama imara kwa uthubutu, basi Tanzania ya Viwanda na Gurudumu letu la maendelo litapiga hatua kubwa na za haraka sana.

Lakini tukiendelea kwua Wategemezi wa magufuli, siku anaondoka tutarudi kule kule, kukwama matopeni na hata kuwa na mawazo potofu ambayo yanajengwa sasa hivi kusema tunahitaji Magufuli akae zaidi ya muda ulioko kwenye katiba.

Namshukuru sana kwa kutuonyesha Uthubutu, tuungane, tusimame imara tufanye mambo kwa uthubutu kupata haki zetu na maedneleo ya kweli na endelevu.

Ahsante Rais Magufuli kwa kutufundisha Uthubutu! Daring, Boldness.. Get Shit Done attitude!

Pongezi Rev. Kishoka kwa mchango wa mawazo. Maboresho kidogo. Tanzania haikuwahi kupata uhuru. Hii ni kwa sababu moja kuu. Tanzania haikuwahi kukosa uhuru. Toka Tanzania imeanza kuweko (1964), haikupata kutawaliwa kwa ukoloni mkongwe. Na toka Tanzania ianze kuweko, haifiki miaka 58 wakati maandishi haya yanachapwa...

Asante kwa kutuletea amani tena.

Magufuli ana mapungufu kadhaa katika uongozi wake lakini ni kiongozi thabiti anayejua kusimamia analoamini. Hiyo ni sifa nzuri sana. Kuwa kiongozi mzuri siyo lazima uwe unafanya yanayofurahisha wayu tu, wakati mwingine hata yale yasiyofurahisha watu mradi tu yana malengo mazuri. Zamani sana Nyerere alitoa mfano wa mgonjwa wa Malaria anayeota jua: ukilazimisha kwenda kivulini, atachukia lakini hiyo ndiyo hatua inayomsaidia mwili wake. Magufuli kwa kiasi fulani amelazimisha wagonjwa wa Malaria kwenda kivulini
 
Lakini Uthubutu unaweza kuwa wa kufanya yalio mema na kufanya mambo mabaya.. msingi mkuu kujitambua ni je kila mmoja na uimara wa kufanya uthubutu wa yaliyomema? au uthubutu wetu ni wa mambo mabaya ikiwa ni pamoja na kuendeekeza UUMUU?

Wakati mwingine sheria zinawezakuwa hazipendwi na watu lakini zinapokuwa vitabuni ni lazima zifuatwe. Unapokuwa kiongozi unakwepa kutekeleza sheria kwa sababu watu hawazipendi, basi unakosa sifa ya kuwa kiongozi
 
Ni kweli UTHUBUTU ni njia sahihi ya kutekeleza jambo bila ya kuweka hofu ya kufanikiwa au kutofanikiwa. Na matokeo ya UTHUBUTU huwa ni yenye matumaini sana kwani hukusaidia kutekeleza jambo ambalo kila anayekuzunguka anakuwa analitilia hofu. Nchi nyingi zilizo endelea zimetumia sana hii dhana ya UTHUBUTU na matokeo yake yamekuwa ni chanya.
Hata ktk Maisha, ni vyema tukajenga dhana ya UTHUBUTU kwani wengi wao walioendelea kielemu,kikazi,kibiashara na hata ktk ndoa wametumia dhana hii mahususi ya UTHUBUTU.

Waswahili wanasema, Penye Nia Pana Njia na ili Nia iwepo ni lazima UTHUBUTU uwepo ili kuleta njia ya kutekeleza unalolipanga.

Kuongoza ni kuonyesha njia na katika kuongoza nchi, njia inayotakiwa ni kufuata sheria za nchi hiyo. Iwapo kiongozi anafanya mambo kwa mujibu wa sheria, basi katimiza wajibu wake. Tunaweza kujadili utaratibu utungaji wa sheria zilizopo vitabuni, lakini siyo utekelezaji wa sheria hizo. Serikali haitakiwi kuchagua sheria za kutekelezwa na sheria za kudharau. Ni kweli kuwa bunge letu wakati mwingine hupitisha sheria mbovu, lakini hilo siyo jukumu la serikali; ni kazi ya wabunge. Wabunge wetu wengi huwa hawasomi miswada inayowawasilishwa Bungeni, wao wanakuwa ni rubber stamp tu. halfu kuna sheria nyingine za siku nyingi sana tangu wakati wa Mkoloni bado zimo vitabuni, kwa mfano kutojenga kwenye maeneo ya barabara. Kama unakumbuka Magomeni ilivyojengwa wakati wa Bryceson, kulikuwa na umbali mrefu sana baina ya nyumba na barabara, lakini baadaye mambo yalibadilika mpaka watu kujenga kwenye ukingo wa barabara wakati sheria ni ile ile; kukitoeka accident, gari litaangukia nyumba.

Rev. katika nchi zetu za Kiafrika sheria zilizopo vitabuni zinatafsiriwa kwa sura mbili na watawala
1. Kama sheria hiyo inasaidia utawala na siyo lazima wananchi, basi itasimamiwa na kutekelezwa kikamilifu
2. Sheria hiyo ikiwa ina matatizo na utawala hata kama ni nzuri kwa wananchi, kwanza haitekelezwi na pili huwekewa amri ambazo ni juu ya sheria yenyewe

Kwa upande mwingine sheria zinalazimishwa kupelekwa Bungeni kwasababu mbili nilizotaja

Mkuu Kichuguu kwa mfumo wetu wa Bunge uliopo ni hybrid, siyo westminster, umechukua America, ukabeba kwingine. Kwa mtazamo huo hatuwezi kuitenga serikali na Bunge

Pili, Wabunge wanasoma sheria lakini hawana ''uthubutu'' wa kuzipitia , kuzikubali au kuzikataa

Bado tupo katika mfumo wa chama kimoja kiaina

Kuna wakati tulikuwa tunakwenda vizuri kwa uwepo wa Wapinzani,ndilo wananchi wanataka

Kwa bahati mbaya mfumo wetu ambapo vyombo vingine vinavyokamilifu mfumo wa kujitawala si huru. Hilo linasababisha uwepo wa chama kimoja, kupotea kwa upinzani na mwisho wake kuwa na mfumo unaotegemea watu, sheria zinazopindishwa kukidhi haja n.k.
 
Ni kweli Mh.Magufuli ana uthubutu na katika uthubutu huo kuna mambo anayafanya vizuri, kuna mambo yanakwenda mrama na hata wakati mwingine mtu kujiuuliza kama kuna umuhimu wa uthubutu bila kulinganisha faida na hasara za uthubutu huo.Mfn swala la sukari na Korosho....

Na Pia uthubutu wake hakubali kuupeleka kwa viongozi wa chini yake yaani kwa maana ya kuwapa/ kuwafundisha viongozi wa nchini yake umuhimu wa kuchukua maamuzi magumu na hapo hapo kuangalia madhara yanayotokana na maamuzi hayo.

Tatizo lilopo hakubali kuona mtu mwingine akithubutu..au huyu mtu akijaribu kuonyesha uthubutu wake basi afanye kile Mh. Magufuli anachofikiri kichwani mwake..jambo ambalo haliwezekani..Matokeo yake viongozi wanasubiri mpaka Mh. athubutu ndo wao wanafuata tena hata kama wakiona kuna madhara fulani huko mbeleni hawayasemi kwa kuogopa kumkasirisha Mh.
Matokeo ni uthubutu ambao mara nyingi mwisho ni hasara..rejea Makanikia na ndege yetu, ubomoji wa nyumba za watu bila malipo, upendeleo wa wazi kati ya Ccm na vyama vya upinzani, vyeti.hewa hasa kwa wazee ambao walilitumikia taifa ili na wakiwa wamebakiza miaka michache ya kustaafu...Uthibiti mkubwa wa utoaji maoni..rejea Ben wa Saanane..

Ni uthubutu ambao una faida na hasara kubwa ndani yake...

Uthubutu una sifa ya kutenda kwa kupanga ( planning) na nidhamu (discipline)

Rais Mandela alipotoka gerezani wafuasi wa Inkhoto Weswizwe walimuomba mapanga na mikuki ili Afrika kusini itakapoondokana na utawala wa kibaguzi walipe kisasi.

Kwa hisia (emotion) Mandela aliwaambia ''kama hicho ndicho wanachotaka yupo tayari kutokuwa kiongozi wao'' . Alipinga pale pale na kwa hisia kali, alikuwa JASIRI

Akapanga (plan) tume ya maridhiano na suluhu (reconciliation and truth commission)
Akasukuma mbele mchakato wa kuandika katiba ya Afrika kusini baada ya ubaguzi

Mandela alitambua, bila uthubutu huo hali ya baadaye akiondoka itakuwa mbaya sana
Lakini pia alikuwa jasiri wa kukabiliana na Inkhoto Weswize bila kujali matokeo yake ikiwa atakuwa popular au unpolular.

Personally, I am ambivalent about Magufuli. On one hand is bold and hands-on kind of a leader. He wants to be in the thick of the actions and see the results himself. If you look at the history of our country, this approach is refreshing because delegating responsibilities doesn’t work very well or doesn’t work at all. It didn’t work when Nyerere, Mwinyi, Mkapa, or JK was in power. Tanzanian leaders were used to paying lip service. They will listen and engage with you, but at the end of the day that was it. So Magufuli is shaking things up as business as usual is no longer the norm.

On the other hand, he’s reckless and that worries me. It is true that Tanzania needs to accomplish A, B and C. But he should remember that our financial and natural resources are finite and therefore he should pay attention to the long-term sustainability of the economy if things don’t pan out the way he expects. For example, you can build wonderful bridges, rail tracks, and airports; however, if the national debt is unsustainable, everything will come to a halt.

In addition, he shouldn’t try build the country at the expense of good things Tanzanians have accumulated over the years. Certainly, his predecessors didn’t move the country at lightning speed, but at least they let people enjoy the freedom of speech, freedom of press, and democracy. For example, I admire the recent Chinese technical marvels, but I would rather die poor in Tanzania than live rich in China. In Tanzania, I have the freedom to worship, pray, and speak .

Any country that ignores its own laws will always end up in a dustbin. Tanzania needs good laws, and a good government to supervise the implementation of those laws; that is all. If a new Airport terminal is not needed at this time, then the Bunge should not appropriate funds for that project. Once the bunge has approriated funds for a particular project, then the government should make sure that the funds are used as approriated by the bunge because it is the law.

Kuwa na uwazi wa judicial system kunaruhusu raia kuibana serikali kama inataka kukwepa sheria ambazo haziifurahishi.

In any case I tend to feel better under a governement that stands by the law than the one that cares to please me with no regard for the law. If the governemt ignores the law, it means that there are people who are treated better under the law than me, and that is not what I am ready to swallow.

I agree with you and as I have indicated in my earlier post. I think his boldness brings a fresh perspective on what the government can achieve with its resources if you have the right minds and the will to accomplish things. For example, a lot of things he has accomplished so far have required common sense and nothing more. If traveling expenses cost the government a good amount of money and the country get nothing in return, why do you travel?

My worry is that he has allowed the cult of personality to emerge around him. Other leaders have got nothing to say but rather to fall in line with whatever president says. We were in those personality cult trenches in 60s, 70s and 80s and it didn't work well. Now I think it’s time we should stop thinking that running a country is a one man show. As a president he shouldn’t spread fear. Rather he should encourage others to be bold when they work for the interests of the nation.

Build strong institutions and being individually bold and daring aren't mutually exclusive. So personally I think he can continue with his leadership style only if the end game is to make the country and the instituions the country depends on stronger.

Hitler did all that because of lack of freedom of speech his people were not happy. What Magufuli is doing a white man could have done better but we chose to be free. We don’t need to be oppressed now.

Leadership critical to every company. Workers need someone to look to, learn from and thrive with.

Every leader has their own style and strategy. Further, leadership styles and methods vary because of outside influences and personal challenges.

While leadership is unique to everyone, there are some common ways to define the term. Peter Economy, also known as "The Leadership Guy," listed the qualities of today's best leadership in an Inc.com article. According to Economy, leadership embodies:

  • Decisiveness
  • Awareness
  • Focus
  • Accountability
  • Empathy
  • Confidence
  • Optimism
  • Honesty
  • Inspiration

Research published in Harvard Business Review in 2000 and an article on Mind Tools listed some common leadership styles:
  • Coercive: Leaders demand immediate compliance.
  • Authoritative: Leaders mobilize people toward a vision.
  • Affiliative: Leaders create emotional bonds and harmony.
  • Democratic: Leaders build consensus through participation.
  • Pacesetting: Leaders expect excellence and self-direction.
  • Coaching: Leaders develop people for the future.
  • Bureaucratic leadership, whose leaders focus on following every rule.
  • Charismatic leadership, in which leaders inspire enthusiasm in their teams and are energetic in motivating others to move forward.
  • Servant leadership, whose leaders focus on meeting the needs of the team.
  • Transactional leadership, in which leaders inspire by expecting the best from everyone and themselves.

More specifically, leaders share similar goals and standards to abide by. Here are four ways that good leaders achieve success:

1. Leaders better their environment

Leaders do not exist to order their workers around. While they oversee their team, a true leader takes initiative and trusts their employees to perform efficiently and independently.

"Leaders are coaches with a passion for developing people, not players," said Randy Stocklin, co-founder and CEO of One Click Ventures. "They get satisfaction from achieving objects through others. Leaders inspire people through a shared vision and create an environment where people feel valued and fulfilled."

When a company has a positive culture, employees are more motivated and confident in their work. It's through supportive leaders that a company finds the most success. According to Richard Kissane, executive chairman of Premium Franchise Brands, leaders are responsible for setting the tone for their team and organization.

"As a leader, it is your responsibility to establish goals, innovate, motivate and trust," he said. "A passionate and compassionate leader can energize a company."


2. They know their team and themselves well

Good leaders want their entire company to succeed, including everyone involved. They take the time to understand every worker so they can help them achieve their personal goals in line with the company's.

"A leader places the people around him or her in a position that sets them up for success," said Andor Kovacs, CEO and founder of property restoration brand Restoration 1. "This is a difficult task, because a leader must have an in-depth understanding of each individual, such as understanding their career goals and knowing what motivates them. By being committed to helping each person achieve their own personal goals, the leader sets the organization up for greatness."

This translates to providing tools that workers need to succeed, offering praise when things go right and taking responsibility when things go wrong, said Jordan French, founding CMO of BeeHex, Inc. 3D Food Printing.


3. Leaders maintain a positive attitude

Businesses face ups and downs. Without someone to take the reins and push forward in optimism, the company will likely be unsuccessful.

"A good leader can hold his or her emotions in check, especially in tough situations," said David Moore, founding partner and regional vice president of Addison Group staffing firm. "For example, maybe you lost your best client, or a deal you've been working on falls through. Regardless, it's important for leaders to guide a team through challenging times, encouraging them and remaining positive along the way. Team morale is heavily contingent upon a leader's attitude."

This is done without pride standing in the way. While no one likes to admit defeat, sometimes it's inevitable. Good leaders recognize that.

According to Darcy Eikenberg, founder of RedCapeRevolution.com, a leader should be confident enough to know when they're wrong so they can move past a mistake.

"Leadership is the ability to see a problem and be the solution," said Andrea Walker-Leidy, owner of Walker Publicity Consulting. "So many people are willing to talk about problems or can even empathize, but not many can see the problem or challenge and rise to it. It takes a leader to truly see a problem as a challenge and want to drive toward it."


4. They build the next generation of leaders

Leaders can't, and shouldn't, stand alone. A company doesn't need just one influential individual. Leaders should want to develop more leaders from the get-go.

"Great leaders also hire and inspire other great leaders, whom they trust to carry out the company mission and instill a sense of purpose that touches each and every staff member," added Tom Villante, co-founder, chairman and CEO of payment processing company YapStone.

According to J. Kelly Hoey, author, "Build Your Dream Network" (TarcherPerigree, 2017), a leader builds their employees so they can be as successful as, if not more than, the person in charge. "A leader is someone who builds their team, mentors them and then advocates for them," she said.

They are not in competition – they are part of a team.
