Prof Gil Gil Ogutu, mhadhiri wa Chuo Kikuu cha Nairobi, amekutwa amefariki nyumbani kwake katika kijiji cha Wambasa kilichopo Bondo, Kaunti ya Siaya.

Taarifa zinsema kuwa mwili wa Muhadhiri huyo uligunduliwa na mfanyakazi wake siku ya jumapili muda wa saa tatu asubuhi ambaye aliukiuta mwili huo ukiwa umeninginia dirishani ukiwa na kamba shingoni.

Akithibitisha tukio hilo, Mkuu wa eneo la Yimbo Katikati Gordon Opundo alisema mwili wa Profesa Ogutu ulipatikana ukiwa umeninginia kwenye dirisha la chumba chake huku ukiwa na kamba iliyofungwa shingoni.

Aidha, taarifa zinadai kuwa Profesa huyo Ijumaa alikwenda nyumbani na mke wake wa pili na wawili hao walikuwa pamoja hadi Jumamosi jioni wakati anaripotiwa kuwa aliondoka kwenda Kisumu.

Kufuatia tukio hilo, uchunguzi zaidi umeanza kufanywa huku mwili wa Marehemu ukipelekwa katika hospitali ya Bondo kwa ajili ya kufanyiwa vipimo vya Postmotam.

Prof. Gilbert Ogutu, a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, has been found dead in his rural home at Wambasa village in Bondo, Siaya County.

The body of the university don, who was an Associate Professor of Church History, was discovered by his worker on Sunday at 9am in what is suspected to be suicide.

Confirming the incident, Central Yimbo Location Chief Gordon Opundo said Prof. Ogutu’s body was found hanging on the window of his bedroom with a leso tied around his neck.

The administrator said the professor on Friday went home with his second wife and the two were together until Saturday evening when she is reported to have left for Kisumu.

According to Mr. Opundo, Prof. Ogutu seemed alright and did not have any problem until around midnight when he retired to bed only for his employee to find his lifeless body when he went to wake him up after preparing his bath water.

Investigations have since been launched into the matter and the body of the deceased transferred to the Bondo sub-county hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
