: A Tanzanian national was nabbed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Monday for trying to smuggle in 10 kg of narcotics worth Rs. 10 lakh.
The incident happened around 1 a.m., when based on suspicion during profiling of the passenger by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) staff, accused Kitumba Risasi Ahmad was picked up for checking at departure gate no.4 of Terminal 3.
Clever tactic
“The passenger’s flight was to leave for Tanzania at 3.30 a.m. While on the way to checking of baggage, the passenger cleverly threw one backpack onto a trolley parked near a pillar between gate no.4 and gate no.3,” said a CISF spokesperson.
The bag was, however, soon spotted by CSIF staff. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad was informed, and the backpack was checked for explosive substances. “In the meantime, a CISF member who had observed the activities of the passenger suspected that the backpack might belong to the accused,” the spokesperson said. The CCTV footage of the area was observed, and the passenger was traced to the immigration counter. The Narcotics Control Bureau was informed, and two packets of Pseudoephedrine were recovered from the backpack.
