RELIGIOUS leaders across Christian denominations in Tanzania have added their voices in condemning immoral acts in society, particularly homosexuality, abortions and adultery, which are on the rise, some of them being openly promoted by western countries.
The condemnations by Christian leaders on Christmas Mass homilies, come just a month after the Tanzania’s Chief Sheikh, Mufti Abubakar Zubeiry bin Ally, spoke against the vices during the Mawlid celebrations to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him).
It also comes after the Parliament of the European Union issued a resolution on December 12, 2018, in which among other concealed agendas, criticized the government of Tanzania for what it described as “victimization” of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons.
The EU Parliament shamelessly remarked in the lengthy resolution that; “it is worried by the deteriorating situation for LGBTI persons in Tanzania and denounces all incitement to hatred and violence on grounds of sexual orientation”.
In a sharp contrast to the appalling position by the western countries, clerics from across the country cautioned on the sharp resurfacing of the new trend of colonialism in the name of “protecting human rights” of LGBT, calling for Tanzanians to stand bold and firm against the threat.
Bishops Renatus Nkwande of the Roman Catholic and Philip Mapuja of the Africa Inland Church Tanzania (AICT) in Mwanza region emphasized that the nation should be careful with the trend calling for the leaders to stand firm and preserve national values.
At Buganda Parish in Mwanza, Bishop Nkwande pointed that neocolonialism through homosexuality should be condemned by the people of God and warned the war against the evil deeds should be fought jointly.
"Today acts of adultery and homosexuality are an order of the day and to make it worse they are trumpeted into our countries.
“We are now being driven back into the lives of Cain and Abel and in fact the fresh generation of Cain the great sinner is here with us. Let us fight hard in restoration of our values," he stated.
Bishop Nkwande, who is also a spiritual caretaker of the Mwanza Archdiocese challenged the good people to pray for the nation and for President John Magufuli in a special way for he can lead the fight against all the evils coming into the country under the influence of some European countries.
The Bishop cautioned on what he referred to as a power chain of immoral deeds coming like a bushfire in Africa which, if not fought back, might turn again into the era of Sodom and Gomorrah which were mentioned in the Bible.
Bishop Mapuja of the AICT asked worshipers to thank God for Tanzania and for President Magufuli whom he referred to as a true 'prophet'.
Equally, the Head of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) for East and Coastal Diocese, Bishop Alex Malasusa, was categorical that same sex marriages should never be embraced in the shadow of human rights as the practice is completely against the Holy Scripture.
Bishop Malasusa warned that believers must look unto God and obey the scripture's doctrine than human deception when addressing the issue of same sex marriages.
"There are claims are that same sex marriages are part of human rights, what about God's rights? Which one should overrule,” he queried.
Citing the bible Dr Malasusa said during creation of man God created man and said but when he noted that it was not good for a man to be alone he created his helper who happened to be woman.
Bishop Malasusa who is also a retired head of ELCT said that he was once asked to choose between incorporating same sex in his church or lose financial aid received from abroad, but his choice was clear.
"God gave a word to me that let them take away money and everything but leave you with the Cross of Jesus"
Speaking during the Mawlid celebrations last month, Mufti Abubakar stressed that; “Neither holly religious books nor the laws of Tanzania accept such terrible acts.
“Religious leaders from all denominations should come out and speak out strongly against the vices,” the leading Muslim Cleric in Tanzania, stressed in his lecture.
The Mufti expressed concerns that the vices would turn the country into a barren land through destruction from God. Alhaj Abubakar cited destruction of cities narrated in the Holy Books, due to acts of homosexuality.
As narrated in all Holy Religious books, Sodom and Gomorrah through a Divine Judgment by God were completely consumed by fire and brimstone due to acts of homosexuality.
Apart from the resolution by the EU Parliament, some European countries have repeatedly threatened to freeze financial aid on what they term as ‘abuse of human rights’, aimed at LGBT.
The European countries had expressed the concerns after the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr Paul Makonda, had ordered a clampdown on gay people.
The order was immediately disowned by the Tanzania’s Foreign Minister, Dr Augustine Mahiga, based on procedural issues but the Government of President Magufuli maintains its stance against homosexuality.
Same sex relationship is a crime in Tanzania and perpetrators may face up to 30 years in jail, according to the Sexual Offences Special Provision Act (1998) and the Penal Code.
The so-called LGBT rights have been challenged in a number of African countries, including Mauritania, Sudan, Somalia and parts of Nigeria. Worldwide, more than 80 countries have penalized it.
Good enough, a European Court had recently ruled that gay marriages, now rampant in Europe, is not a human right, but still many European countries are pushing aid as a weapon to force their own culture into others.
