Tanzania rebased it's economy and it's only grew by 3.8%

Of course. And that GDP is accurately underwhelming. We heard lame excuses that TZ economy wasn't be captured - turns out even with latest data - its very puny. Kenya will also re-base once they have census data - more accurate comprehensive data - together with 2016 Household surveys - and we shall see how that goes. I am think Kenya re-basing will happen in 2021 or around.
They rebased and reduced previous GDP growth figures from 7.2% to 6% .The objective of rebasing is not inflate GDP rather its to make GDP figures more accurate

Its about accuracy of data and GoT is very keen on getting the true figures out even if CCM may feel that revising previous GDP growth figures down does not reflect well on their political talking points..Magufuli is honest with himself

Is that why Magufuli passed a law that criminalize unofficial stats or anyone who questions them. Sounds very honest indeed.Citizen Newspaper is out of press for doing exactly that. Questioning the strength of Tshs.

At the end of this year, kenya economy will cross over $100 billion dollars mark, remember, kenya is not a petro or mineral economy,we don't have commodity resources yet we punch up there with the big boys,Angola economy grew at an average of 20% in the 2000s for pumping out 1.2 mbd of oil,its economy is around $110 dollars.

Have you read the law or are you just getting your info from media?
How would you react if david ndii came with figures other than those from KNBS? You may diasgree with his analysis but he strictly uses KNBS data
The law simply states that GoT is the only source of government statistics and any other entity that purpots to issue statistics and claim that they are official data from the economy are commiting a felony

The government has a lot of vested interest in statistis,we cannot risk entrusting them with statistics.especially economic data, have you ever had of institute of economic affairs in kenya, they provide much more transparent data than KNBS

So you think consumers of any stats are not intelligent enough to tell what is credible or not. Dr Ndii has been churning his stats - nobody has a problem with him - except when he engages in tribal baiting - which isn't protected speech but hate speech.

We know why Magufuli enacted the law - some research org found out Tanzania were sleeping hungry despite denial from gov. I mean it alarmed even the World Bank - enough for them to threaten sanctions.

If you're not paid by Magufuli to spew propaganda then I hope you're his girlfriend because there is really no logical explanation why one would suspend reasoning like that.

Precisely. Data and Stats is the heart of Issue-based politics and that is where we need to get - after we are done with tribal politics - and that would entail questioning data, the methodology and mostly ripping apart official data. You criminalize that then you're stunting the nascent democracy in TZ.

Yes it will grow to 100B - Treasury think we might be 150B in 2023. World Bank & IMF think we will be around 130B. I think important thing to watch out for next re-basing - Kenya will overtake Angola and Morocco within the next decade - and will be fourth largest economy after Egypt, South Africa and Nigeria. Ethiopia are growing fast but I doubt their gdp figures...

Stano, ethiopia is starting from a very low base,i think it make sense for their figures, though their growth is gvernment driven which is pouring billions of dollars in infrastructure, thats very risky, what i love about kenya is its robust private sector which is the one that always drives growth, without our private sector we are doomed.

Tanzania rebases economy, 2015 GDP now 3.8 pct larger - stats office | Reuters

Looks like they are not going to overtake kenya this century. Kenya should be due for re-basing after this year census - and the gap will widen even more.
Why all this sarcasm? Unaposema "looks like THEY are not going to overtake Kenya" kunanifanya niamini kabisa hakuna uzalendo katika fikra zako. Kama juhudi hizo zitafanya tuipiku Kenya, well and good. Lakini lengo letu si kuipiku Kenya bali kuleta maendeleo.
