Tanzania’s president, Jakaya Kikwete, has become the first African president to raise the issue of military intervention in Zimbabwe if the government crackdown on the Movement for Democratic Change(MDC) worsens.

“We will certainly consider it (Miltary intervetion)if asked,” said Kikwete “If we get there, to a point where military action is needed, if it’s a multilateral project, then we’ll do it. At the moment we do not think that will be necessary’

Tanzanian People’s Defense Force is made up of close to 30 000.The manpower available for military service is a combined 14 387 010 two times Zimbabwe ’s manpower available for military service which stands at 5 464 100.

This comes as the U.N. Security Council issued a unanimous statement on Monday that a free and fair presidential election run-off in Zimbabwe was impossible because of violence and restrictions on the opposition.

The adoption of the non-binding statement by the Security Council, which comprises China France, Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, United States,Belgium,Indonesia,South Africa,
Burkina Faso,Italy,Viet Nam,Costa Rica,Libyan Arab Jamahiriya,Croatia and Panama was its first formal action on the crisis in the southern African country.

Before the 15-nation Security Council adopted the statement, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said: “There has been too much violence and too much intimidation. A vote held in these conditions would lack all legitimacy.”

The only thing this president is good for, military adventures.

Sasa naona anataka kumpiku Kagame aliyekemea tu, JK anakwambia tunaweza kupeleka jeshi.

TUNATAKA KUMSIKIA SLAA!

ALIPEWA SHAVU NA WAMEREKANI HAPO KENYA KWASABABU HIZI HIZI ZA KUWA KIONGOZI WA ARFIKA ILI ALIUZILIE MBALI BARA HILI KAMA ALIVYOFANYA KWA TANZANIA NA WATU WAKE!

yes sir! sometimes democracy and the rule of law are not free, they have to be defended yes even by force. However, I do not believe the time for military intervention is right. Even the talk about military intervention is premature. So far, we haven't seen any clear and obvious steps by President Kikwete to help resolve the political crisis which has been growing for sometime now in Zimbabwe.

It is sad that we have to reach this point where we have to talk about military action to resolve a political crisis in sovereign country. Instead of raising the stakes by discussing military action, President Kikwete should summon an immediate crisis meeting with other regional leaders and stakeholder and should consider the imposition of military and other sanctions even if necessary economic embargoes. This could be done through the UN or AU fronts. We should never act uniletarally. All diplomatic channels should be explored and fully exhausted before considering a possible military confrontantion.

While we should always reserve the right to use military force when necessary, the diplomatic options should be open and at the forefront of resolving any political crisis on our continent. Only when a given population is under attack or in imminent danger should we adopt a military approach to defend it.

It is for this reason that the statement by President Kikwete is immature, ill-timed, and indeed would raise the political stakes in Zimbabwe and therefore fuels the war of words between the concerned parties.

MMK,

How bad do you want it to get? My only problem here is that we do not have a cheesy "territorial integrity" AU clause violated and therefore no excuse, and this is yet to be categorized a genocide.

I hope against hope that the Security Council will do something useful than the usual longwinded speeches and promises of sanctions to probably materialize after Mugabe is already dead.

Ripoti ya madini ipewe SINCLAIR KABLA YA WANANCHI HALAFU UNASEMA TUKO HURU?
KUNA WATU MNAOTA NINI?

MNA AIKILI TIMAMU NYIE KWELI AMA MNALETA MASIHARA HAPA?

Bubu hapo umenena!

Hivi majeshi haya tumeanza nayo lini maana hata Iraq Bush alipingwa kupeleka Majeshi leo inakuwaje ?

This is the best time for action because is going to be a big suprise to Mugabe. Mugabe is weak and not prepared for anything at this point

I hope he didn't say what have been reported. It is stupity at its best.

Who said what and who is stupid?
Are you trying a scare tactic against someone?

Sasa, I hope Rashid Othman kampa Kikwete better Intelligence Estimates, than simply relative military sizes.

Tusije tukaenda kichwa kichwa tukatembezewa mkong'oto. Wenye "dataz" za Nuclear Stockpiles za Mugabe mpo?
