July 1, 2020 is the date that will go down as remarkable day in Tanzania history as the first and starting date for implementation of the fifth and final Government Budget to end the first five years of the fifth regime but more important a day the World Bank recognized Tanzania as a middle-income country, five years before reaching 2025.
In discussing these achievements I would like to remind seven( 7) key success stories which will go down as remarkable international records to interpret these achievements;
#First, I keep in mind that all who were asking and challenging on what kind of nation President Magufuli is building , July 1, 2020, the World Bank have responded! That Magufuli was building a middle income nation.
# Second, Is the record released by the International Monetary Fund(IMF) through the former Director of the Organization, Ms. Christine Legarde when interviewed by Quartz Magazine, in 2017 in Ethiopia.
When asked which African countries are heading to Vietnam industrial revolution, She cited Tanzania, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Kenya. Again this was the answer to those who were questioning whether President Magufuli Government is really building an industrial economy.
# Third record is the one released at the World Economic Forum 2018, where Tanzania was ranked the leading African nation for an inclusive economy in Africa South of Sahara. This record cementing the fact that Magufuli government is indeed a pro-poor government.
# Fourth record is where the Government of Tanzania was ranked 28th out of 186 nations surveyed in the world for effective management of public finances. , this record defeated so many countries in the world. Our competitors in EAC & SADC Blocks were ranked as follow; Kenya (70), Uganda (100), Malawi (106), Mozambique (118), Ghana (61), Botswana (37). This record proves that even the world recognizes President Magufuli is building a disciplined spending government with a great record not only in Africa but in the world. This is according to a report by the World Economic Forum, Executive Opinipn Survey 2019).
# Fifth record, Tanzania was named as the leading nation out of 37 African countries surveyed in the fight against corruption. This is according to The Africa global opinion survey 2019.
We suppose to appreciate that we have come a long way, the era of renting a plane for 43 million dollars but working 6 months and finish the rest 37 months of contract in garage (refer to CAG report April 2020).
Today the government purchases new aircraft bombardier for $ 32 million! This is just a small example to show that as a Nation there are decades we lost!
# The sixth record comes from African Global opinion survey report of 2019 which shows citizen trust to their government has increased tremendously. It revealed that 72%had trust to their government in fighting corruption compare to 13% in 2015 .This is one of the recordings of a major revolution in the world.
# The Seventh Record comes from the number one global Credit Rating Agency, the MOODYS.
According to MOODYS Credit Rating Agency, which own 45% of global market share, rated Tanzania higher than any East Africa country with B1 leaving the rest with B2 ranking in 2017 report. This assessment is the first of its kind in Tanzania since independence.
These are global records and will remain so as President Magufuli international identity let alone the great diplomacy he used to confront COVID19 and leave the rest of the world wondering how it was possible for a corona pandemic that shaken the whole world but failed in Tanzania.
What I am emphasizing here is that while Magufuli achieves such a great international record, it should be noted that he come into power in 2015 when the government was unable desperate and unable even to manage wagebill!.
He received a Government that had to borrow to finance wage bill (desperate government)! but within 5 years he achieved a great record in every sector related to human development !.
He has succeeded in building an economically strong Government in all economic interpretations in the world.
Those of us who were familiar with these records are not surprised to hear Tanzania being declared qualified to enter the middle income economy 5 years before the target year which is 2025.
